After years of anticipation, there’s finally an update on Dave Filoni’s planned crossover movie featuring characters from The Mandalorian universe, but it’s not quite what fans were hoping for. Originally announced some time ago, the film was intended to be a grand finale, bringing together the storylines from shows like The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and Skeleton Crew into a single, epic movie experience.
The planned Mandoverse movie was soon overshadowed by other Star Wars projects, like this year’s The Mandalorian & Grogu and the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter. This marked the beginning of a long period with no significant news or development regarding Filoni’s Mandalorian film.
As a big fan, I was hoping for an update on that massive movie bringing together everything from The Mandalorian and the other shows. Unfortunately, it sounds like Lucasfilm has temporarily paused development on it. The Hollywood Reporter says it’s been “put on the back burner,” which is definitely disappointing, but hopefully it means they’re taking the time to make it truly amazing when they get back to it.

This news follows the announcement that Dave Filoni will lead the Star Wars studio, working with Lucasfilm executive Lynwen Brennan, after Kathleen Kennedy steps down from her long-held position.
Dave Filoni’s planned The Mandalorian movie is the newest Star Wars project to be delayed or cancelled, following similar fates for Rian Johnson’s proposed trilogy after The Last Jedi and Patty Jenkins’ Squadron film.
This summer, fans can experience Star Wars on the big screen again for the first time in over six years with the release of The Mandalorian & Grogu, a film executive produced by Dave Filoni. Later this year, Filoni will also direct episodes of Ahsoka Season 2, debuting on Disney+.
Will We Ever See the Mandoverse Movie?

The announcement of the Mandoverse movie generated a lot of excitement. It was intended to be a huge film that would connect all the different streaming series. Following the success of The Mandalorian‘s first season in 2020, the idea seemed innovative. However, over time, the chances of Dave Filoni’s Mandoverse movie happening successfully began to look less likely.
The main reason the project is currently stalled is the significant changes being made to Season 4 of The Mandalorian, which happened after the 2023 Hollywood strikes.
Following a disappointing third season and the widespread halt to production across the entertainment industry, Lucasfilm announced it wouldn’t be making a fourth season of The Mandalorian. Instead, they decided to move forward with a movie project, which eventually became The Mandalorian & Grogu, led by Jon Favreau.
A planned Disney+ project, intended as a grand conclusion to its story, risked losing some of its impact with the announcement of a separate Star Wars film connected to ‘The Mandalorian’.
Although Lucasfilm wouldn’t say so publicly, this decision seemed to signal the project was likely finished, or at least wouldn’t proceed as originally planned.
Last April, Dave Filoni explained the movie hadn’t been announced yet because it was taking a significant amount of time to develop. Now, with Filoni taking on the leadership role at Lucasfilm, his schedule will be even more packed, which could further delay the progress of the planned ‘Mandoverse’ film.
So, the movie will sit on the back burner. Whether it will ever be picked back up remains unclear.
