The Mandalorian at 5: These 5 Mando characters need a backstory
As a seasoned gamer and Star Wars enthusiast who has spent countless hours navigating the galaxy far, far away, I must say that The Mandalorian has truly outdone itself in crafting captivating characters that have left us yearning for more. While the show’s fifth anniversary is a cause for celebration, it also serves as a reminder of the many unanswered questions that linger in the minds of fans like myself.
Reflecting on “The Mandalorian” five years since its debut, it’s evident that the series has excelled in creating captivating new characters for the franchise. These are characters we eagerly anticipate seeing in every season, and they’ve shown consistent development as individuals, forming strong bonds with the show’s primary character.
Despite many of these characters now being established series mainstays, expected to feature in The Mandalorian and Grogu, their backstories remain largely unknown to us.
Here are 5 characters from The Mandalorian who need a backstory.
The Armorer has been important from the first chapter of the series, but her past remains a mystery. While Emily Swallow recently told fans at a convention that she doesn’t want to know The Armorer’s backstory, it would be a shame not to learn a bit more about her. Where did she come from, and who is she underneath the helmet? The Armorer’s skills indicate that she’s been around a long time and knows everything there is to know about forging beskar. She probably knew Din since he was a foundling, and she was aware of Bo-Katan Kryze’s history.
A significant part of what finds her fascinating lies in the enigma that shrouds her past, which means her backstory should be equally captivating. It’s not hard to see why Emily Swallow might resist delving deeper into The Armorer’s history, but uncovering the secrets behind her origins and the source of her extensive knowledge about Mandalorian lore and even certain aspects of Jedi history is something we eagerly anticipate learning.
Peli is a Tatooine native and Mando’s most entertaining recurring character. We know she’s dated a Jawa before and has never been off-world. We’d love to see how she became a mechanic and how much of Tatooine’s history she knows about. Based on The Book of Boba Fett, she knew all about the N1 Starfighter and seemed to believe in the existence of the Force. Peli may know something about the Shmi and Anakin Skywalker or even Luke Skywalker’s family, but the only way to confirm this is to learn more about her past.
In a single episode of the show, Omera sparked much interest about her history. Many viewers wished to see her again in Season 3, but the storyline centered around Mandalore instead. If Omera reappears, we’re eager to learn more about her past. Notably, she was the only female marksman in her village on Sorgan, which fueled numerous fan theories regarding her background. Some speculated that she might have been an Imperial agent or possibly related to Gideon. All in all, Omera is a captivating character, and we’d like to delve deeper into her history.
In the world of “The Mandalorian” (Season 2), the character Migs Mayfeld was portrayed by Bill Burr, and his background story appears rough and intricate due to the atrocities he witnessed under the Empire. This complex backstory leaves ample opportunity to delve into his origins and the series of events that shaped him into the character we know. Given Burr’s compelling performance, it would be enticing for fans to learn more about Migs Mayfeld’s past.
5) Din Djarin:
It might surprise you that although Din Djarin is the central figure, there’s not much information available about his early life. We know he hails from Aq Vetina, and during the Clone Wars, his parents were killed. A Mandalorian saved him, integrating him into their group as if he were one of them. There’s a lot we want to learn more about, such as his family background, home world, and childhood experiences as an orphan. We wonder how he dealt with the strict helmet rules, what events shaped his reputation as an exceptional warrior, and why he seems to have a particular fondness for children. Additionally, we’re curious about why his knowledge of Mandalorian and Jedi history is limited, and what other secrets The Armorer has hidden from him. Lastly, we’d like to know how the conflict with Paz Vizsla began, as there are still many unanswered questions regarding Din Djarin’s past.
