The Star Wars films are incredibly popular, enjoyed by fans for decades. Recently, Disney+ has released several live-action series set in that galaxy. The first of these was The Mandalorian, and it’s now getting a theatrical release with the new Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu. The show’s creator, Jon Favreau, has hinted at changes to Pedro Pascal’s character, Din Djarin, when his story continues on the big screen.
While details are scarce, fans are eager to see how The Mandalorian and Grogu’s story continues on the big screen. The third season of The Mandalorian concluded with a satisfying ending for Din and Grogu, and Jon Favreau recently shared some hints about the future with Empire magazine, stating:
Din Djarin, the Mandalorian, has decided what’s most important to him. At the end of Season 3, he expresses a desire to stop working as a mercenary and instead dedicate himself to helping those who need it.
Season 1 of The Mandalorian was great, largely because of Din Djarin’s exciting life as a bounty hunter. But the upcoming movie suggests a shift for Pedro Pascal’s character. He appears to be moving away from bounty hunting to focus on battling what’s left of the Galactic Empire, including Moff Gideon (played by Giancarlo Esposito). It’ll be interesting to see which Rebel characters he crosses paths with in the new film.
Even though Moff Gideon appeared to die in Season 3, many fans still anticipate his return in The Mandalorian and Grogu film. The possibility of cloning exists within the Star Wars universe, which could easily bring him back. If not, it will be interesting to see who Din Djarin and Grogu face as the primary villains in the movie, now that they are established as the heroes.

Disney+ offers access to the popular Star Wars universe, including shows like The Mandalorian. You can start streaming with ads for as little as $11.99 per month. For an ad-free experience, it’s $18.99 monthly, or you can save 16% by paying $189.99 for a full year. Check out the deal here!
With The Mandalorian and Grogu set to be the next Star Wars film after the conclusion of The Rise of Skywalker, there’s a lot riding on it. Jon Favreau later discussed the story of his hit series, focusing on its main characters.
At its heart, the film focuses on the central relationship between the characters as they embark on a journey together. Star Wars is fundamentally about change and development, with characters constantly evolving – for better or worse. It explores themes of mentorship, with one generation passing on knowledge to the next, and significant character growth happens throughout the story.
It was tough seeing Grogu go with Luke Skywalker at the end of Season 2, but I was so happy when they reunited in Season 3! Now that Grogu is more powerful with the Force and really getting involved in the adventures, I’m incredibly excited to see how Din and Grogu’s relationship evolves as we watch them on screen. It’s going to be amazing!
Fans will finally learn what happens next with The Mandalorian and Grogu when the movie arrives in theaters on May 22, 2026. Until then, you can revisit the popular series on Disney+.
