The new movie featuring The Mandalorian and Grogu is almost here, and its creator, Jon Favreau, has shared some exciting details about it.
During the Star Wars: Most Wanted event, Jon Favreau shared updates on The Mandalorian and Grogu movie. He announced that filming is nearly complete and assured fans that he and the team are working hard to deliver a theatrical experience that’s truly worth seeing in cinemas.
Favreau believes The Mandalorian and Grogu significantly raised the quality for future Star Wars projects. He says everything – from the way things look and are filmed, to the stories and characters – will be more ambitious than before. Knowing that going to the movies can be inconvenient, he aimed to create an experience that’s truly worth it and enjoyable for all viewers.
We need to significantly improve the cinematic experience for IMAX, which means using taller screens and building sets that fully utilize the format. This also requires raising the quality of our visual effects and enhancing our storytelling to meet a higher standard.
We aim to create a truly immersive experience – something so captivating that it draws you away from everything else and compels you to visit a movie theater. We want a film that demands your full attention, one you can’t simply pause or distract yourself from, and that leaves you with a memorable and satisfying experience.
When playfully asked about updates on The Mandalorian and Grogu, Jon Favreau joked about Darth Vader’s famous family connection. He then shared a few details about the upcoming season without giving away any major plot points. He confirmed Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) will be flying the same ship, that Grogu has grown and developed new abilities, and that the character, affectionately known as Baby Yoda, blends the traits of both Jedi and Mandalorians.
The new movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu, will continue the story of these popular characters as they assist the New Republic in battling remaining Imperial forces. Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, and George Lucas wrote the screenplay. The cast includes Pedro Pascal, along with Sigourney Weaver as Colonel Ward, Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt, Steve Blum as Zeb Orrelios, and Jonny Coyne as Imperial Warlord Janu Coin.
The Mandalorian and Grogu premieres in theaters on May 22, 2026.
