As a gamer who’s had the misfortune of playing far too many “survive-the-shark” video games, I can confidently say that the new Lego Jaws set is an absolute masterpiece. The attention to detail, from the Orca boat’s scar-filled interior to the menacing presence of “Bruce,” is nothing short of impressive.
Lego is no stranger to recreating classic pop culture moments, and this new Lego Jaws set has almost immediately become one of my favorites. The 1,497-piece homage captures the showdown between a trio of unlikely heroes and a very angry shark. The set features a full recreation of the Orca boat, including the interior where the crew shares body scar stories; minifigs of Brody, Hooper, and Quint; and of course, “Bruce” the Shark — along with a display stand for its four lead characters. The Lego Jaws set costs $149.99 and will ship Aug. 22.

1975’s “Jaws” continues to be one of my all-time favorite films and one of the groundbreaking hits for director Steven Spielberg, whose illustrious career is a tale that could fill volumes. The suspense surrounding the shark was just as much created by behind-the-scenes mishaps as it was by the on-screen action – with the shark often malfunctioning or not appearing at all, director Steven Spielberg and his team cleverly played with our emotions by keeping the beast mostly hidden. The iconic “duh-nuh” theme song is now synonymous with “instant dread.” If you’re looking for a fun reminder of “Jaws,” LEGO has crafted an endearing recap, offering some playful twists on the original ending.
Without fail, don’t forget to admire the incredible Lego replica depicting Brody encountering his terrifying great white shark adversary. A single image can tell a thousand stories, and here, it’s telling not just a story but also showcasing the effort that went into constructing a few hundred Lego bricks.
