The Legend of Zelda live-action movie confirms who’s playing Zelda and Link

The Legend of Zelda movie has found its Zelda and Link.

As a devoted fan, I’ve been on cloud nine, eagerly waiting to find out who will step into the shoes of the two main characters for Nintendo’s forthcoming live-action interpretation.

The well-known gaming company has verified that newcomers Bo Bragason, known as Renegade Nell, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, recognized from The Haunting of Bly Manor, will take on roles as the Hylian princess and green-garbed hero in their upcoming game.

In a post about X, Nintendo announced with excitement: “Meet Shigeru Miyamoto, the mind behind the world of Zelda. I’m thrilled to share that for the live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, Bo Bragason will portray Zelda, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will step into the role of Link.

“I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen.”

Besides playing Renegade Nell, British actor Bragason has also been featured in BBC series Three Girls and The Jetty. Meanwhile, fellow British talent Ainsworth lent her voice to Pinocchio in the 2022 Disney live-action adaptation.

The upcoming “Zelda” film is currently being overseen by director Wes Ball, who previously worked on “The Maze Runner.” Meanwhile, screenwriter Derek Connolly, known for his work on “Jurassic World,” is handling the script. For now, specifics about the storyline are kept confidential.

In other words, across the entire Zelda series, it is common for Link and Zelda to work together in an attempt to save their world, Hyrule, from the villain Ganon. Therefore, it’s reasonable to anticipate a scenario like that in this case as well.

Miyamoto, a key figure behind the famous series, has joined forces with Avi Arad, the founder of Marvel Studios, in their roles as executive producers.

In 2023, Miyamoto announced that he had asked Avi-san to collaborate with him on a new film, and they have now begun working on it alongside Nintendo. While there’s still work ahead before its completion, Miyamoto expressed his anticipation for the audience to be excited about seeing the final product.

Nintendo is making a significant leap onto the large screen, capitalizing on the success of 2023’s “The Super Mario Bros Movie.” Notably, a film based on “Zelda” is also said to be under development, and reports suggest that a “Donkey Kong” movie may follow, following a recent copyright filing.

The Legend of Zelda is due in US cinemas on May 7, 2027.
