The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Wins Emmy After Cancellation

Despite being canceled, *The Late Show with Stephen Colbert* received an Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Series on Sunday night.

It was amazing to see Stephen Colbert and his team walk onto the stage! Everyone immediately jumped to their feet, giving them a huge standing ovation – they truly deserved it.

You know, back in September 2025, Stephen Colbert shared something really powerful with his audience. He said he’d never felt a stronger, more urgent love for his country. It really struck me, and I think a lot of other people too – it felt incredibly raw and honest.

CBS announced in July 2025 that the show was canceled for financial reasons, citing difficulties in the late-night television market. They stated the decision wasn’t related to the show’s ratings, content, or anything happening within Paramount. However, some people believe the cancellation may have been influenced by political factors.

Instead of sticking to safe topics, *The Late Show* is now taking bigger risks, particularly with its segments on President Trump. As TIME’s Judy Berman pointed out, it’s almost as if the show is challenging its network to cancel it, given how boldly it’s going after such controversial material.

For example, earlier in the show, Stephen Colbert playfully gave Harrison Ford his “résumé” and asked him to pass it along to Steven Spielberg while presenting the award for best actor in a comedy series.
