The Last of Us star Kaitlyn Dever shares how Andrew Garfield helped her cope following mother’s death
Actress Kaitlyn Dever, who plays in “The Last of Us” season two, revealed that Andrew Garfield from “Spider-Man” provided comfort to her after the passing of her mother.
Last year, shortly before filming a scene where his character Abby gives a monologue about the demise of her father, Dever’s real-life mother lost her battle with breast cancer.
During an insightful chat with Stephen Colbert in 2021, Garfield shared memories of his mother Lynn, who passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2019.

Speaking candidly about her experience of mourning, Dever shared that watching an interview with Garfield provided comfort and aided her in dealing with the passing of her own mother.
The actor from “Last Man Standing” and “Dopesick” shared with The Independent: “I’d frequently search for it online and watch, as I’ve always feared… nothing more tragic than losing my most cherished friend.
Even when I felt like giving up, seeing Andrew living his life made me think, ‘perhaps mine can move forward too.’
During his conversation with Colbert, Garfield expressed gratitude to all those who helped him reach his current position. He explained that he feels compelled to honor his mother through his artwork and utilizes it as a means of healing and mending emotional scars.
After bidding farewell to my mom at her funeral, I found myself once again immersed in the world of my character, Dever, on set. The scene called for Abby to execute Joel following a heart-wrenching monologue about discovering her father’s lifeless body.
She commented on the situation, saying, “I had recently gone through [my loss]. Although death is inherent in the human journey, it’s not natural for us to be accustomed to sorrow and witnessing a friend’s demise. Therefore, I found it jarring to keep repeating that phrase since I had only just seen her.
She had passed away, and I witnessed her lifeless form at the hospital. That encounter was incredibly heart-rending; nothing can compare to its intensity.
