The Last of Us season 2 star addresses controversial character
Mild spoilers for The Last of Us Part II game follow.
Actress Kaitlyn Dever, who plays the lead role in The Last of Us season 2, has spoken out about the debates surrounding her character Abby.
The actor known for his roles in “Last Man Standing” and “Dopesick” has signed on for HBO’s second season of their TV series based on PlayStation games. In the original content, Abby performs some questionable actions, but the game delves into her perspective, creating a narrative that is grayer than a straightforward good-vs-evil tale.
Even now, the response to Abby remains quite intense, similar to when the game was launched in 2020. This is evident from the ongoing discussions about her character’s addition to the series and Dever’s portrayal of her.
The actor admitted, “I find it difficult not to notice such items online.” He added, “From time to time, I can’t help but sneak a peek, and certainly as we move forward, that’s definitely the case.
Additionally, it’s crucial for me to honor this character accurately and satisfy the fans by portraying her vividly in such a manner.
My primary concern revolved around the partnership between Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin, ensuring I deeply understood the character’s essence, motivations, and emotional landscape – her rage, disappointment, sorrow, and all those complex feelings. I aimed to channel most of my efforts into capturing these aspects accurately.
In the TV series, Abby, played by Dever, appears smaller and less intimidating compared to her video game character. The producers explained this discrepancy by stating that since the show is more about drama rather than gameplay, they didn’t emphasize physical presence as much.
The TV show “The Last of Us” is broadcasted in the United States on HBO, while it can be found on Sky Atlantic and streaming platform NOW in the UK. The second season is set to debut on April 13th.
