The Last of Us season 2 held a wrap party, end of filming seems imminent

As a seasoned gamer who has spent countless hours navigating through the desolate landscapes of The Last of Us series, I can confidently say that the anticipation for its small screen adaptation is reaching an all-time high. Having played both games and witnessed firsthand the emotional turmoil and heart-wrenching decisions that Joel and Ellie face, it’s a thrill to see the cast and crew bring these characters to life on our screens.

2024 is flying by so quickly, it’s hard to believe we’re almost at its midpoint! That means some exciting new TV shows for next year are just around the corner, and among them, one of the most eagerly awaited is The Last of Us, the post-apocalyptic drama adapted from the cherished video games by Naughty Dog.

In the finale of the show’s first season, Joel (Pedro Pascal), a tough survivor of the zombie apocalypse, chose to slaughter an entire Firefly unit instead of letting them harm his adopted daughter Ellie (Bella Ramsey). This action thwarted any chance of creating a cure for the zombie virus from her blood. To make matters worse, Joel deceived Ellie about what happened. The consequences of this hidden truth on their relationship will be explored in season 2.

Over the last few months, the team responsible for “The Last of Us” has been busy shooting scenes for its second season in Vancouver, Canada. It appears that they are nearing the finish line for main filming, as photos from a wrap party have appeared on the internet.

The photos you see were shared by film editor Timothy Good, with the message: “We’ve wrapped up! Kudos to the exceptional team of The Last of Us season 2. Now we take your hard work back home!” His post also featured the tags “#postproduction” and “#editing”.

It’s important to note that although there was a wrap party for The Last of Us season 2, it doesn’t mean that the entire production has been completed. Executive producer Jacqueline Lesko confirmed on Instagram that they are still filming. This is a usual practice to allow as many people involved in the show to participate in the celebrations since cast and crew often finish their individual parts at different times. So, while we’re excited, let’s not jump the gun just yet!

As a dedicated fan and gamer, I’ve been eagerly following updates from TheLastofUsNews on Twitter. They’ve hinted that filming for Season 2 might wrap this week, although we’re yet to get the official word. In the meantime, I can’t help but savor the snapshots of the wrap party – a tantalizing glimpse into the fact that The Last of Us season 2 is nearing its final stages. Whether it wrapped yesterday, earlier this week, or will happen soon, one thing’s for sure: the main shooting for the show’s second season seems to be almost over.

After The Last of Us concludes its filming, it moves onto post-production phase. During this period, editors and special effects experts meticulously refine it over several months to deliver the episodes that will air next year.

The second season of “The Last of Us” will have seven episodes, focusing on the initial sections of the video game “The Last of Us Part II”. HBO has announced that it will be released in 2025. With production nearing completion, everything appears to be progressing as planned. We won’t wait much longer before we rejoin Ellie, Joel, and their companions in Jackson.
