The Last of Us season 2 has officially finished filming ahead of show’s 2025 return
As a gamer with countless hours logged into The Last of Us series, I can confidently say that the anticipation for season 2 is reaching an all-time high! After months of eagerly watching social media for any updates, it’s finally official: filming has wrapped up on this masterpiece! Now, we just have to wait patiently while the creative team works their magic during post-production.
We’re officially one step closer to The Last of Us season 2 reaching our screens!
Following several months of shooting throughout Canada, production for the second season of HBO’s Emmy-winning drama has officially concluded. This was announced on Twitter by film editor Timothy Good, who shared that filming for season 2 has wrapped and extended his congratulations to the team involved in the series as it now moves into post-production.
🎉 Wrapping up! A big shout-out to the phenomenal team behind The Last of Us season 2. Your dedication is about to pay off at home! 🏠 Good tweeted on August 19, marking the end of production.
After wrapping up filming, the team responsible for creating the show’s visual effects and finalizing details for the second season will begin post-production work. Although an exact release date hasn’t been announced yet, we can confirm that the second season of the show will air on HBO in 2025, with the production schedule indicating it should be back on our screens next year.
The Last of Us release date remains a mystery, but could it arrive in January 2025?
Although HBO hasn’t revealed specifics about when The Last of Us will come back for Season 2, it’s possible that they might plan to debut the series during the initial part of 2025, considering it could be their primary offering for the year as a major release.
To remind fans, the initial season premiered on January 15, 2023, and continued until early March, providing HBO with a popular series in the first part of the year. This period is usually when most shows are on hiatus post-holiday season, but this show excelled, particularly on Sunday evenings during the early months, ultimately becoming a proven success for the network.
Based on HBO’s pattern of success with releasing shows during specific seasons, it appears they might aim to replicate this by potentially launching The Last of Us season 2 around the same time as its first season – likely in January 2025, considering their summer release strategy for series like House of the Dragon.
It’s worth mentioning that among the HBO shows returning in 2025, only “The Last of Us” was previously aired in the first quarter. Shows like “The White Lotus” and “Just Like That”, usually air during summer and fall seasons. Furthermore, since 2025 will see another “Game of Thrones” spinoff, which traditionally premieres in the summer, it seems logical for HBO to start the year with “The Last of Us”.
Assuming that filming for season 2 is finished and it’s moving into post-production before September, it’s likely the new season will be ready to broadcast by early 2025. It would come as a surprise if HBO didn’t start off their 2025 scripted lineup with this popular show!
