‘The Last of Us’ producer to work on live-action League of Legends project
The live-action League of Legends show may be taking fans to Bilgewater.
After the achievement of Arcane, it appears that Riot Games is capitalizing on the trend of adaptations, with hints of a real-life League of Legends series emerging online.
Live-action League of Legends show to inherit The Last of Us producer
Reports coming out of Vietnam have revealed information about the forthcoming series, such as where it will be filmed and who its executive producer is.
As the Executive Producer, Rose Lam (who currently holds the position of Global Production Director at Riot Studios) is set to oversee the production of the upcoming show. Notably, her past works encompass the adaptations of popular series such as ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ and ‘The Last of Us’.
The Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Leisure, and Travel confirms that Lam and her team examined potential filming sites in Vietnam before selecting Cát Bà Islands Archipelago as the “perfect fit” for their project. Alternative locations under consideration included Japan, South Korea, and Thailand.
The Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Nguyen Van Hung, highlights that Vietnam’s stunning landscapes and rich cultural background make it a captivating location for global film productions. He strongly advocates preserving natural heritage and the environment during production, noting that Vietnam prioritizes environmental conservation over economic gains. Furthermore, he mentions that the Ministry plans to work alongside Hai Phong authorities to establish suitable conditions for the film crew.
The live-action LoL show is also expected to promote Vietnam’s image and improve tourism.
The Cát Bà Archipelago consists of approximately 367 islands, with Cat Ba Island being its largest. This island group has been designated as both a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and a World Heritage Site.
What will the live-action LoL show be about?
Although there hasn’t been official confirmation that the adaptation will focus on the League of Legends IP, all other details strongly suggest it. If not League of Legends, then VALORANT would be the most likely Riot-owned IP to adapt, but the technological setting of VALORANT makes the chosen filming location seem unusual.
Currently, it’s uncertain which part of Runeterra will be featured next in adaptations. Given the geography of the setting, there’s a strong possibility that we’ll explore Bilgewater and Shadow Isles. This could lead to the inclusion of champions like Graves, Twisted Fate, Miss Fortune, and potentially Viego, similar to the cast seen in the Ruined King: A League of Legends Story game.
