The Last of Us TV show has had its future confirmed, just days ahead of the season 2 premiere.
In an exciting turn of events, the post-apocalyptic series, derived from the video game saga with the same title, is set to return this coming Sunday (13th April).
And fans won’t need to fear that this is the end, as season 3 is officially happening.
“It can’t be for nothing. Season 3 is coming,” reads a post on social media.
Concurrently with the unveiling of season 3, showrunner Craig Mazin stated (through The Hollywood Reporter): “Our intention for season 2 was to produce something we could take pride in.
Our achievements surpassed our highest expectations, largely due to our ongoing partnership with HBO and the exceptional performances by an unmatched team. We eagerly anticipate exploring further tales from ‘The Last of Us’ in season 3.
Neil Druckmann, one of the showrunners, stated that witnessing “The Last of Us” be so beautifully and accurately adapted has been a significant milestone in his career. He expressed gratitude for the fans’ passionate and overwhelming response. A large part of this success, he said, is due to Craig Mazin, our partnership with HBO, PlayStation Productions, and our dedicated team.
From all of us here at Naughty Dog, the cast, and the entire team, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for giving us this chance. We’re incredibly excited to continue sharing with you more stories from The Last of Us.

Speaking about it, HBO’s head of drama series and films, Francesca Orsi, emphasized that they are incredibly proud of the exceptional accomplishment they believe the second season of “The Last of Us” has achieved.
Craig, Neil, Carolyn (Strauss), along with the entire executive producer team, actors, and crew, have given us a magnificent continuation. We are excited to continue harnessing the emotional impact of Craig and Neil’s storytelling as we anticipate another season filled with equal emotion and greatness.
The makers behind the television series “The Last of Us” have announced that Season 2 will follow the initial portion of the video game “The Last of Us Part 2”. It’s anticipated that Season 3 could delve into the remaining half of the game, potentially serving as the concluding season.
The television series “The Last of Us” is broadcast in the United States on HBO, while in the UK it airs on Sky Atlantic and the streaming platform NOW. Currently, they are producing season 2.
