The Kooks frontman Luke Pritchard reveals why Rebel Wilson joined the band on stage and admits they only rehearsed an hour before

The lead singer of Kooks, Luke Pritchard, has shared an unexpected explanation for Rebel Wilson joining the band’s performance at the Reading Festival.

On Friday, the 40-year-old musician astonished his audience as he invited the 45-year-old Australian actress to duet with him in performing a version of “Gangsta’s Paradise.

Since then, videos from the performance have spread rapidly across social media platforms. However, it has been revealed that Luke had merely practiced for an hour prior to the event.

Sharing some behind-the-scenes details, let me tell you a fascinating tale of an unexpected alliance. You see, my esteemed colleague in Tinseltown – she’s quite the charmer, really. We’ve grown quite close, and I must say our friendship is one for the books.

As a die-hard fan, when she reached out to me, it was all about gathering some cutaways for her upcoming movie. But in the heat of the moment, I couldn’t help myself from suggesting something extraordinary – why not collaborate on a song? After all, everyone knows she’s got an amazing voice and stage presence that could elevate any track!

As an ardent admirer, I seized the opportunity when we were granted twelve precious hours. I thought to myself, “Why not take a chance?” Little did I know that she would surpass all expectations. With minimal practice time – just an hour in our makeshift dressing room before the curtain rose – she delivered an exceptional performance that left me awestruck.

Luke mentioned, “Upon entering, she was already a pro; indeed, it was all light-hearted entertainment for the audience. After all, she’s quite the celebrity among us. We were merely supporting acts.

The band originating from Brighton, consisting of Luke, Hugh Harris (guitarist), and Alexis Nunez (drummer), made a comeback to perform at the Reading Festival on Friday, after an absence of seven years.

Luke expressed that it went exceptionally well, he found it truly impressive. He admitted to feeling quite emotional about it. It felt almost like returning home.

We’ve been away from performing in the United Kingdom for some time now, but let me tell you, the excitement among the youth is phenomenal! It feels like a sea of young fans, full of enthusiasm and affection.

Really, we can’t express enough gratitude because the old songs we have are still well-received as if they were brand new.

The group first performed at Reading and Leeds festival in 2006 and then again in 2018.

This band was established in Brighton back in 2005. Their first studio album, “Inside In/Inside Out,” came out in 2006 and landed at the second spot on the UK charts. The following year, their album titled “Konk” topped the UK charts for the first time, making it their debut number one album there.

Luke remarked, “It seems as if it were an entirely different phase of life. Life, I believe, ought to have its moments of change. That, I suppose, was one such moment. It was extraordinary, intense, and we created some fantastic music during that time, but now I’m fully focused on what lies ahead.

For the past 20 years, we’ve been touring the United Kingdom, but this time around, we’re performing at some of the largest arenas we’ve ever graced with our presence.

It feels great, and we’re definitely up for the challenge, though it’s been quite some time. Initially, rooms of this scale may have been manageable on our debut album, but our confidence level wasn’t quite there yet.

We’re facing an entirely new approach to performance, but having given it some thought, I believe we’re prepared to embrace this challenge head-on.

In April, it was revealed that the band would embark on a UK arena tour, performing shows in cities like London, Manchester, Cardiff, Brighton, Newcastle, and Birmingham during October.

Following the announcement, the team put out their seventh album titled “Never/Know,” which climbed as high as fifth place on the UK album rankings.

On Saturday, August 23rd, the Reading and Leeds Festival carries on, boasting an impressive lineup featuring Chappell Roan, Hozier, Rudimental, Becky Hill, and Conan Gray.
