As a devoted fan of Nova Drive Time with Ricki-Lee, Tim, and Joel, I am in awe of their quick thinking and resourcefulness during the recent global Crowdstrike outage that left many Australian businesses and broadcasts in chaos. The trio’s ability to adapt and find solutions to host their show using an Apple computer, Tim’s Spotify account, an analog clock, and Joel on mobile phone from Melbourne is a testament to their professionalism and creativity.

On Fridays during the recent Crowdstrike blackout, Ricki-Lee, Tim, and Joel from Nova’s drive time show shared how they successfully hosted their program despite the worldwide outage.

Experienced hosts Ricki-Lee Coulter, Tim Blackwell, and Joel Creasey continued to broadcast their show from Sydney and Melbourne despite challenges, innovatively adapting to keep it running – with their rivals temporarily halted.

The clever hosts swiftly posted a video on Instagram, showcasing the creative solutions they implemented to continue airing their show.

When Microsoft devices were hit by an unexpected outage during our recording session, my team and I quickly pivoted and decided to use an Apple computer instead. For the music portion of our program, I personally utilized my Spotify account to ensure a seamless listening experience for our audience.

At Nova’s Sydney studio, Ricki-Lee (age 38) and Tim (age 42) checked the time using an old-fashioned clock. Simultaneously, they managed to connect Joel (age 33), who was in Melbourne, on the live broadcast through his mobile phone.

In the video, the witty hosts effectively entertained their audience despite the challenges with their quick thinking and comedic abilities.

“Greetings from Nova, the special version today. I believe we’re good to go? It’s late Friday afternoon, and there’s been a minor mishap,” Tim expressed to his audience.

“I’m absolutely thrilled and my pulse is quickening with excitement. It feels like I’m making a real difference in the world right now. We’re in our own bubble, free from any external distractions or interruptions. The music we’re listening to is all under our command.”

A nationwide power outage at Microsoft affected Australian radio stations across the country, but we’re managing to broadcast live, the traditional way, on Nova.

Brendan Taylor, Programming Director at Nova, praised the team of three for successfully figuring out how to broadcast the show despite the worldwide power disruption.

“He made this statement, expressing that our top-notch technology and manufacturing departments, along with our skilled presenters, are responsible for this outcome.”

According to recent news, the extensive Microsoft outage affecting businesses and airports in Australia may last for several days, potentially resulting in significant financial losses.

On Friday afternoon, checkout systems at Woolworths and Coles supermarkets experienced significant issues, leading to crashes. This problem extended to other entities such as Qantas, Jetstar, ABC, Foxtel, and 7-Eleven, as multiple computers across the country encountered frequent crashes and displayed the infamous ‘blue screen’ error.

I, as a devoted adherent to our company, have come to the conclusion that the recent failure was caused by conflicting issues between Crowdstrike software and a Windows update package. Consequently, our servers and devices found themselves trapped in frustrating “boot loops.”

An Australian government representative announced a convening of the National Emergency Council around 6 pm AEST. During this assembly, officials from both the government and industry sectors received updates about the current state of affairs from Crowdstrike.
