The Inbetweeners star confirms talks for show return

As a gamer with a soft spot for British comedy and a fond memory of growing up with The Inbetweeners, hearing about a possible return of this iconic series has me as excited as a cat on a hot tin roof! I remember how my group of friends used to quote lines from the show during our own adolescent adventures, navigating our way through school life.

As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to hear whispers that the gang from my beloved show, The Inbetweeners, might be back on our screens! Word has it that one of the original stars has spilled the beans about ongoing discussions within the cast. Fingers crossed for more hilarious antics from Will, Simon, Jay, and Neil!

Joe Thomas, known for his role as Simon Cooper in the E4 coming-of-age comedy, has mentioned that discussions regarding a return of the cast have taken place.

As for your question about a potential new series of “The Inbetweeners”, I’d certainly be thrilled if it were to happen! It seems like something we all could appreciate, don’t you agree?

In addition to James Buckley, Simon Bird, and Blake Harrison, the primary characters were portrayed as a trio of high school students attending a British public school, dealing with relationships, camaraderie, and the torment of their senior year’s principal.

Thomas mentioned that the team harbors doubts as to whether the upcoming series will match the quality of the initial one, which further led to the creation of two movies.

As for us, we’ve managed to stay connected, maintaining a significant presence in one another’s worlds. The bond we share remains strong, and if the opportunity presented itself, I believe we’d leap at the chance. I sense that our affection for one another has not waned, it persists as vibrantly as ever.

“We’ve each had the opportunity to tackle different tasks or responsibilities that were outside of ‘The Inbetweeners’, helping us accomplish personal goals and demonstrate our abilities in various aspects of life.”

He shared that a new project would likely follow the group of friends away from their school days, and one of the “ideas out there” was a story involving a stag do in Las Vegas.

This humor-filled show, featuring both Emily Atack and Emily Head, spanned across three seasons from 2008 to 2010. It garnered universal praise, securing two BAFTA nominations and even winning a British Academy Television Award.

The actor, who portrayed Will McKenzie on the series, earlier expressed his belief that a show like “The Inbetweeners” might not be produced nowadays because of its implicit use of homosexual slurs.

“I honestly think it wouldn’t be commissioned today,” the actor told The Telegraph.

He went on to explain: “I justify it to myself by thinking that at the time, it reflected how teens communicated with one another. But is that true today? I doubt it.”

The show, initially established during the 2000s, actually derived from a precursor set in 1990. Consequently, despite its airing in the 2000s, it didn’t truly capture the way teenagers communicated at that time.

The Inbetweeners series one to three are available to watch on Channel 4 on demand.
