The Hysteria! on Peacock trailer is giving off a darker Stranger Things vibe
As a seasoned gamer and binge-watching enthusiast who grew up in the ’80s, I can’t help but feel that the trailer for Hysteria! on Peacock is giving me major Stranger Things vibes – and I’m not complaining! Though I must admit, the Netflix series has already set a pretty high bar for dark suspense, this one looks like it might take things to an even spookier level.
It seems like either my longing for the show or something more is causing it, but the trailer for Hysteria! on Peacock is reminding me of Stranger Things, and I’m eager to watch it. While Stranger Things is already quite dark, this show appears to be even darker, so if you’re a fan of Stranger Things like me, you might want to give Hysteria! a try too!
The chilling new horror thriller series will debut on Friday, October 18th, 2024, streaming all eight episodes on Peacock. That means you can binge-watch it! Personally, I would have preferred a weekly release schedule, but it seems the streamer has other plans. Here’s the trailer we shared:
Is it clear to you that the combination of the settings and ’80s era ambiance strongly resembles “Stranger Things”? Indeed, both shows share a striking visual similarity. Moreover, Bruce Campbell’s character as Police Chief Dandridge serves a role somewhat analogous to Jim Hopper in season 1, trying to solve mysteries. Lastly, Julie Bowen’s Linda Campbell gives off a Karen Wheeler-like impression, but it seems Linda will be more actively involved in whatever is unfolding.
The show titled “Hysteria!” shares a lot in common with “Stranger Things,” but the characters are older and there’s more music involved. Unlike the monstrous demogorgons and Vecna, this Peacock series delves into themes of Satan and the devil instead. Here’s an overview of its plot:
When a beloved varsity quarterback disappears during the “Satanic Panic” of the late 1980s, a struggling high school heavy metal band of outcasts realize they can capitalize on the town’s sudden interest in the occult by building a reputation as a Satanic metal band, until a bizarre series of murders, kidnappings, and reported “supernatural activity” triggers a leather-studded witch hunt that leads directly back to them.
Since “Stranger Things” season 5 is being filmed now but not due until 2025, it’s clear we need other shows to keep us entertained in the meantime. I believe one of those might be Hysteria!, given its stellar cast that includes Anna Camp, Emjay Anthony, Chiara Aurelia, Kezli Curtis, Nikki Hahn, Garret Dillahunt, Nolan North, Elijah Richardson, Milly Shapiro, Allison Scagliotti, and Jessica Treska.
Hysteria! premieres Friday, Oct. 18, 2024 with all 8 episodes on Peacock.
