The Hunger Games’ New Ampert Casting Sets Up the Movie’s Most Gut-Wrenching Scene
Beware! The following discussion contains spoilers for the upcoming book adaptation “Sunrise on the Reaping“. If you prefer not to learn about its plot details beforehand, you might want to avoid this conversation.
The unveiling of the cast for the upcoming Hunger Games film adaptation has been nothing short of magical, particularly for a devoted reader such as myself. Studio Lionsgate seems to have consistently knocked it out of the park with their selections of actors who I believe will flawlessly embody their respective characters. For instance, Elle Fanning as Effie? Brilliant choice! The latest wave of casting announcements has arrived, and although they may not be household names yet, one selection already has me eagerly awaiting a heart-wrenching scene in the movie.
Ampert (And Other Key Tributes) Have Been Cast In The New Hunger Games
I’ve been living for all the Instagram posts announcing the cast, and per the new Haymitch actor, that’s how he’s been learning about his co-workers, too! Anyways, on Friday Lionsgate unveiled the young actors playing four tributes: Panache, Silka, Wellie and Ampert. Check it out:

Laura Marcus and Jhaleil Swaby are set to portray the significant on-screen homages of Silka and Panache, hailing from District 1, whereas Rada Rae has been cast as Wellie, a tribute representing District 6.
But the casting that really got me was seeing who would embody District 3’s Ampert.
Percy Daggs IV is a talented actor who’s appeared in productions alongside notable stars such as Halle Berry in “Never Let Go”, Sterling K. Brown in “Paradise”, and Samuel L. Jackson in “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey”. However, despite the book’s description of Ampert being young and petite, seeing Percy Daggs IV in action has me concerned about a crucial scene from the book.

Seeing Who Will Play Ampert Has My Heart Breaking All Over Again Over The Book
In the upcoming adaptation, Ampert is revealed to be the child of a recurring figure, Beetee, to be brought to life by Kelvin Harrison Jr. Notably, he will be stepping into the shoes previously filled by Jeffrey Wright in the initial Hunger Games film series.
In the novel, Ampert finds himself competing in the games, his father acting as his guide. This strategic move was intended as a form of punishment for Beetee, but surprisingly, he forms an immediate alliance with Haymitch during their training. Before Haymitch realizes it, Beetee enlists him to aid them both in subverting the games while they are within the arena.
While engaged in the games, Ampert and Haymitch arrange a meeting to carry out their strategy, however, Ampert tragically becomes the meal for a pack of vicious beasts.
In the book, it’s detailed that the animals clean him so thoroughly that all that’s left of Haymitch are his bones. After taking a closer look at the actor playing Ampert, I’ve come to realize that I won’t be emotionally prepared when Sunrise on the Reaping is released.
These books can be heart-wrenchingly impactful, yet their narration is captivating enough that I’m definitely planning to catch the movie adaptation in November, as I’m eager to see how this poignant tale unfolds on the big screen.
