Production is well underway on HBO’s new *Harry Potter* TV series. The actors are in costume and fully embodying their characters, and a large-scale set resembling a school has been built at Warner Bros. Studios for the young cast. The show is progressing smoothly, and the production team even did something positive for the local community during filming, though not everyone was thrilled about it.
The new *Harry Potter* series will be filming some scenes in Lustleigh, Devon, but the village’s many potholes pose a safety risk to the production. Luckily, the local parish clerk announced on Facebook that the potholes on Wreyland path will be repaired before filming begins.
Great news! The team filming in the area has received permission from the local council to repair the Wreyland path. A contractor will be filling the biggest potholes by hand this Friday, September 26th, and will then decide if any additional repairs are needed. The path will remain open for everyone to use as usual.
That’s great news, isn’t it? Nobody wants to see accidents caused by potholes. It only took a small fix, thanks to the HBO crew, and a positive thing happened.
Interestingly, the people of Lustleigh weren’t as happy with the road repairs as you might expect. Although people across the UK were glad the potholes were fixed, many jokingly pointed out that it took a film crew coming to the area to actually get the work done.
- Thats brilliant news, can fix potholes for filming but not for everyday use…-Andrew Pike
- Would it be possible for the parish council [to] ask the film company, as a good token gesture, to do all the other roads in the parish that will be inconvenienced, due to any Diversion? Like the road up to Pethybridge and Pullabrook for example? -Michael Morris
- Harry Potter and the potholes … good new book heading. -Donna Tandy
It’s not surprising that residents of Lustleigh are frustrated it took a TV show’s filming to finally get potholes fixed. According to The Guardian, the village relies on a unique system for road repair: volunteers track and fill smaller potholes themselves using a spreadsheet, while larger repairs require a report to the council.
I’m hearing that making the new Harry Potter series is a massive undertaking – it sounds like they’re filming each season for almost a year! That’s a seriously long shoot, but honestly, I’m okay with that if it means they’re really taking their time to do the books justice and create a truly faithful adaptation. It makes perfect sense that production is so involved and needs to address things like those road repairs with such a lengthy filming schedule.
People in the village of Lustleigh jokingly complained that it took the filming of *Harry Potter* to finally get the potholes in their roads fixed, but they were glad it happened. They’re also excited that their small town of 600 people will be seen by audiences around the world when the *Harry Potter* series premieres on HBO’s streaming service.
I’m so excited for the fantasy series to finally hit HBO Max in 2027! But if you can’t wait that long, you can actually watch the original movies right now – they’re available on HBO Max or Peacock.
