Nearly a year after The Handmaid’s Tale wrapped, the show is gearing up for sequel series The Testaments. Like its predecessor, the dystopian drama is based on a novel by Margaret Atwood, and follows June Osborne’s (Elisabeth Moss) daughter Hannah (Chase Infiniti) – also known as Agnes.
The original show’s ending frustrated some viewers because June didn’t get to see her child again. The creators felt the same way, explaining that they had plans for a follow-up series that would address this.
Yahlin Chang explained to the Los Angeles Times last year that bringing June and Hannah together was a challenge due to the events in The Testaments, and they were ultimately unable to make it happen.

Personally, I found it difficult to please others or even myself. The thought of her sharing her story with Hannah was incredibly moving.
Showrunner Eric Tuchman explained that the decision not to reunite June and Hannah was difficult, as they knew fans really wanted to see it happen. He felt this unfulfilled desire was a major motivation for June throughout the entire series.

Years after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale, The Testaments follows Agnes, who has grown up sheltered within the confines of Gilead. When a new student arrives, Agnes starts to understand how truly oppressive her society is, and she begins to fight back.
You can watch The Testaments on Disney+ and Hulu starting April 8th. The Handmaid’s Tale is available on Hulu in the US, and on Channel 4 and Prime Video in the UK.
