I’m so excited! They just dropped the first trailer for The Testaments, the sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale, and it looks amazing. It’s based on Margaret Atwood’s novel, and stars Chase Infiniti, who I loved in One Battle After Another. It’s coming out in April, and I can’t wait!
Almost a year after the last episode of The Handmaid’s Tale aired, we’re returning to the world of Gilead with a new show.
Ann Dowd is back as Aunt Lydia in The Testaments, which picks up the story 15 years after the first series. The show introduces Infiniti as Agnes, June’s daughter who was separated from her and is now living a privileged but sheltered life within Gilead.

I started noticing things were really messed up in my town after becoming friends with Daisy, this new girl from Canada. She’s got a secret, and honestly, hanging out with her opened my eyes to how controlling everything was. It made me realize we needed to fight back, so I decided to start a rebellion.
The trailer for The Testaments, coming to Hulu and Disney+ on April 8th, shows Agnes slowly becoming aware of the limitations placed on women in Gilead. The show uses a dollhouse to represent the strict social order within Gilead’s power structure.
What to Read Next
She described it as an exact replica of their home. The video then shows the Marthas – the women who serve as housekeepers in Gilead – always appearing occupied, as Agnes explained.
She explains that others always handled the key responsibilities, as seen in the trailer with the group of men in suits.
“And there is a little girl doll. That’s me.”
The trailer initially shows happy scenes of Agnes and her friends at school. Then, it suddenly cuts to a shocking image: a group of people being hanged in the town square. Agnes then reflects, “Maybe it’s simpler to accept this version of events than to believe the people around us are capable of such horrors.”
Dowd tries to bring together new student Daisy and Agnes, hoping they’ll hit it off. The scene then cuts to Daisy’s life back in Canada, showing her happily skateboarding and suggesting she’s hiding something from her past.

In the trailer’s final moments, Agnes states, “It’s time for a change,” as she and her friends, Daisy and Shunammite (Rowan Blanchard), walk purposefully down the school hallway.
The film also stars Mattea Conforti as Becka, Eva Foote as Aunt Estee, Kira Guloien as Rosa, Amy Seimetz as Paula, Brad Alexander as Garth, Birva Pandya as Miriam, and Zarrin Darnell-Martin as Aunt Gabbana.
So, the person who created The Handmaid’s Tale, Bruce Miller, is running the show again, which is awesome. He’s also an executive producer, and even Elisabeth Moss – you know, Offred herself – is involved as an executive producer too. It’s cool to see the original creative team still so involved!
Adapted from Margaret Atwood’s 2019 novel, The Testaments is a story about growing up and resisting oppression. The book was highly praised, called a “modern masterpiece” by many, and won the prestigious Booker Prize alongside Bernardine Evaristo’s Girl, Woman, Other.
The Testaments releases on Disney+ and Hulu on 8 April.
