The Handmaid’s Tale sequel series casts a major leading role

The Testaments, the sequel series to The Handmaid’s Tale, has cast a major leading role.

In the upcoming TV adaptation, following Margaret Atwood’s 2019 book, we find ourselves 15 years after the storyline of its prequel. This intriguing tale is told through the perspectives of Aunt Lydia, a recurring character, Agnes, a resident of Gilead, and Daisy, who hails from Canada.

As “The Handmaid’s Tale” prepares to conclude its six-season run in the coming month, production is busy on its subsequent series. According to reports from Deadline, actress Lucy Halliday, known for her role in “Blue Jean,” has been cast as Daisy in this upcoming show.

Halliday will join forces with previously announced cast members Chase Infiniti and Ann Dowd, who returns as Aunt Lydia. Their stories unfold as they delve into the mysteries of Gilead and its resistance movement, finding their paths becoming increasingly connected.

Previously, Dowd – a recurring character from all six seasons of “The Handmaid’s Tale” – expressed excitement over the disclosures about her character in “The Testaments,” which she talked about in 2019.

She expressed genuine excitement – let’s not sugarcoat it – about Aunt Lydia’s actions and motivations. When an actress takes on a role like Lydia from The Handmaid’s Tale, it’s as if there’s a human truth behind her portrayal that helps us understand why she makes the decisions she does.

Even though The Testaments hasn’t been aired yet, fans can look forward to watching the final season of The Handmaid’s Tale, where June Osborne/Offred (Elisabeth Moss) makes efforts to overthrow the oppressive regime in Gilead.

The summary for the upcoming 10-episode season, set to air on April 8th, states that June’s resilient heart and strong willpower draw her back into the struggle to overthrow Gilead.

“Luke and Moira become part of the uprising, Serena makes an attempt to change Gilead, while Commander Lawrence and Aunt Lydia grapple with their consequences, and Nick encounters difficult trials of his moral integrity.

The Handmaid’s Tale streams on Hulu in the US and both Channel 4 and Prime Video in the UK.
