The Handmaid’s Tale Finale Surprises Fans with a Long-Awaited Character Return and More!

Spoilers ahead for the series finale of The Handmaid’s Tale.

Every streaming platform boasts its own blockbuster shows, and if you’re a Hulu subscriber, “The Handmaid’s Tale” is undeniably among them. This captivating adaptation from book to screen has garnered multiple Emmy awards and recently wrapped up with the Season 6 finale. As for my wish for the final season, I hoped it would shed light on Alexis Bledel’s character, Emily. Fortunately, the last episode delivered on that front and reintroduced many cherished characters.

Instead of waiting for others to catch up on The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6, I, as an original fan, have been eagerly anticipating each new episode. The departure of Bledel’s character, Emily, was a downer since she was popular among fans, and I fretted over what might happen to her. I would have settled for just a few lines explaining her whereabouts, but surprisingly, she reappeared in the finale and shared a beautiful scene reminiscent of her Season 1 collaboration with Elisabeth Moss.

I must admit, it was quite a shock to see Emily back on “The Handmaid’s Tale” after such a prolonged absence – we’re talking about two full seasons here! But as the series drew to a close, June found herself reminiscing about her tumultuous journey, and it was none other than Emily, my first ally and fellow member of Mayday, who she encountered during those early days.

On Hulu, you can watch “The Handmaid’s Tale,” which isn’t found anywhere else. If you’re a new customer or qualify as returning, you get a 30-day trial period where you won’t be charged. After that, plans start at just $9.99 per month. Check it out here!

It appears that Emily spent several months collaborating with Mayday, taking on the role of an aunt, and has continued to nurture her relationship with her spouse Sylvia and son Oliver. Before disappearing offscreen before Season 5, it seemed as though she might have been driven solely by vengeful anger to pursue Aunt Lydia for retribution. Her demise was particularly heart-wrenching, given that she had just reconnected with her family in Canada.

In sheer delight, I couldn’t contain my excitement when Alexis Bledel’s character graced the screen in the last episode of The Handmaid’s Tale. But the show’s masterminds outdid themselves by not just meeting my expectations, but surpassing them significantly.

In June’s dreamscape of Boston, we were treated to a heartwarming reunion with her Gilead companions. Remarkably, this included Alma and Brianna – characters who met their tragic end in Season 4 during the harrowing train sequence. Seeing them again was nothing short of magical.

In the series finale, the sight of the group united, with Janine intact and unafraid, offered a heartwarming, if fictional, resolution for the Handmaids. In June’s imagination, she envisioned these women living in a world where Gilead had never risen, allowing them to display genuine joy and freedom – something we rarely saw during the six seasons on Hulu. Among the many characters, Alma was particularly dear to me, so it was delightful to see her reappear alongside Brianna.

Since the main series has concluded, enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the forthcoming spinoff titled “The Testaments” to further develop the narrative. Readers are particularly anticipating the return of Aunt Lydia and June’s daughter, Hannah.
