The Hand That Rocks the Cradle remake finally confirms UK release date as intense trailer lands

Disney+ is getting a new version of the 1992 thriller, *The Hand That Rocks the Cradle*. The streaming service has released a trailer and announced the movie will be available starting October 22nd. Viewers in the US can also watch it on Hulu.

Starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Maika Monroe, Raúl Castillo, and Martin Starr, the film centers on Caitlin and Miguel Morales, a couple raising their children in the suburbs. Their lives take a disturbing turn when they hire a new nanny, Polly Murphy, and Caitlin begins to suspect a sinister plot targeting her family.

Mileiah Vega, Riki Lindhome and Shannon Cochran also star.

Michelle Garza Cervera, a Mexican filmmaker, directs the new version of *The Hand That Rocks the Cradle*. It’s expected to be quite different from the well-loved original film from the 1990s.

The film features Annabella Sciorra, Rebecca De Mornay, Matt McCoy, Ernie Hudson, and Julianne Moore. It has a 67% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and critics especially praised Rebecca De Mornay’s acting.

In an interview with ScreenRant, director Cervera explained that her movie isn’t a traditional remake. While it retains the basic storyline and some elements like the ages of the characters – including a 10-year-old girl and a baby – the setting, city, and overall themes are quite different.

This new version, unlike the original 1992 film set in Seattle, will be located in Los Angeles and will also explore the characters’ pasts in more detail.

She explained that the reasons behind the characters’ desire for revenge, and how the conflict unfolds, are unique to this particular story and its characters.

Cervera also pointed out that the movie is quite dark, explaining that it presents characters with more complex motivations and blurs the lines between who is the hero and who is the villain.

I was reading an interview with the director, and they explained that this isn’t your typical jump-scare thriller. It’s more of a slow burn, building tension over time. They were really happy with Maika Monroe’s performance too, saying she brought this really creepy, controlled vibe to the character that they were super proud of. It sounds like she plays a seriously unsettling villain!

Okay, so I just heard that *The Hand That Rocks the Cradle* is dropping on October 22nd! If you’re in the US, you can catch it on Hulu, and for all my UK friends, it’ll be streaming on Disney+.
