The Grand Tour’s Richard Hammond responds to new presenters taking over show

As a long-time fan of The Grand Tour, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia as Richard Hammond confirms the end of an era. Having grown up with the trio on Top Gear and then following them to their Prime Video adventure, it feels like bidding farewell to old friends. Yet, the thought of new presenters taking over brings a glimmer of excitement.

Richard Hammond, a star from The Grand Tour, has spoken about the potential continuation of the show with fresh hosts at its helm.

After eight years and five seasons, Hammond, along with his fellow hosts Jeremy Clarkson and James May, are saying farewell to their car series on Prime Video. The final episode, named “The Grand Tour: One For The Road “, will be available for streaming on September 13.

In a recent chat with Metro, Hammond revealed that the trio is leaving, but The Grand Tour will carry on with fresh faces stepping into the presenting roles.

He mentions that The Grand Tour will go on. Although we’re moving aside as the presenters, Prime is set to keep it going. I’m eagerly looking forward to relaxing in my own seat and enjoying someone else take over. What an exciting prospect!

Hammond confesses that he’s yet to learn who the fresh faces will be as hosts, but shared the crucial element he believes is essential for the program to keep thriving.

As a dedicated gamer, I firmly believe that if you’re creating any game, be it about food, dance, or vehicles, the developers, who are the heart and soul of the project, should genuinely love and embrace the theme. And I can confirm that we’ve always carried that passion within us.

“Our show didn’t require a love for cars to enjoy; many non-car enthusiasts still watched it. However, it was crucial that we, the creators, were true car aficionados.”

For more than two decades, Hammond, Clarkson, and May have collaborated as a dynamic presenting team. From the year 2002 until 2015, they jointly hosted BBC’s automotive program Top Gear. Later in 2016, they shifted to Amazon’s Prime Video platform and debuted The Grand Tour.

The last episode, filmed in Zimbabwe during September 2023, has been completed, but Hammond confesses he still hasn’t fully grasped the fact that the series is coming to an end.

He shared that the final episode will be sincere and emotional, more about saying goodbye and expressing gratitude rather than featuring grand explosions or chaos. In essence, it will be a straightforward yet moving farewell.

“I genuinely appreciate your role in providing us with these wonderful memories over the past twenty years. Thank you very much!”

Get ready for the release of “The Grand Tour: One For The Road” on Amazon Prime Video, coming your way on September 13th! If you can’t wait that long, you can already start streaming all five seasons right now!
