The Grand Tour’s Richard Hammond announces ‘exciting’ new project as his Amazon Prime show with Jeremy Clarkson and James May ends
As a dedicated follower of the automotive world, I can’t help but feel a twinge of nostalgia as I watch Richard Hammond embark on yet another exciting adventure with his new projects at The Smallest Cog. With over two decades of experience working alongside Jeremy Clarkson and James May, it’s hard not to reminisce about the good old days of Top Gear and The Grand Tour.
Without delay, Richard Hammond has unveiled a fresh, intriguing venture following the conclusion of his joint Amazon Prime series with Jeremy Clarkson and James May.
On Friday, the 54-year-old presenter drew nearer to wrapping up his lengthy television collaboration with his automotive enthusiast companions, as they collectively released “One For The Road.
But just hours later he revealed he already had something new in the pipeline with his restoration company, The Smallest Cog.
Posting on Instagram, Richard captioned the picture as follows: ‘This marks the end of an era, yet the beginning of something thrilling! We’re no longer driving one, but two of the newest vehicles from The Grand Tour!’
We can’t wait to dive into refurbishing these icons, preserving their sentimental value while making them functional and enjoyable once again.
Richard founded The Smallest Cog in 2021, with the company featuring in his Discovery+ series Richard Hammond’s Workshop.
Last week, Richard said he was getting ready to ‘wake up and cry every day’ as he prepares to bid goodbye to his partnership with Jeremy and James.
On “This Morning” on Monday, Richard openly shared that he’s finding it hard to comprehend the finale.
Accompanied by hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, he reminisced about his time on Top Gear, expressing surprise that it became so popular and hard to control, saying, “It took off in a way we never anticipated, and I still can’t wrap my head around it.
For the past 22 years, I’ve continued with this task due to our partnership. My gratitude towards Jeremy and James will last a lifetime.
Richard went on to say: “It hasn’t fully hit me yet. I think come half a year, I’ll find myself weeping every day when I wake up.
Upon landing that dream role at last, I was a sprightly 31, and when the call came through, tears of joy streamed down my face. Turning to my spouse, I exclaimed, “This moment is about to rewrite our entire story!” Indeed, it did.
For their latest escapade, the audience watches as Jeremy, Richard, and James disregard Mr. Wilman’s guidance and embark on a journey to Zimbabwe in vehicles that have long been coveted by them.
The three friends are about to set off on a breathtaking journey across stunning, demanding terrains, traveling in a Lancia Montecarlo, a Ford Capri 3-liter, and a Triumph Stag. At the end of their adventure, they’ll reach an emotional climax on an oddly recognizable island.
Andy Wilman, a veteran producer, shared at the Edinburgh TV Festival that the process of making this particular episode was quite emotional and touching.
Wilman stated that they felt it was time to wrap up the worldwide phenomenon, explaining, “We’ve reached a point where enough is enough. Moreover, we want to decide when to stop, not someone else. It was inevitable that it would come to an end, and we wanted to be the ones who made the final call.
The final installment was filmed in September of last year. This upcoming episode will bring us back to Kubu Island, Botswana – where their inaugural special was set. Wilman characterizes this episode as “deliberately soft” because the main cast members wished to revert to fundamental aspects.
