The Good Doctor star Freddie Highmore’s heist movie is now on Netflix
As a die-hard fan of Freddie Highmore, I must say that his latest venture into the thrilling world of heists with “The Vault” is nothing short of exhilarating! Having grown up watching him as the precocious and brilliant youngster in “Finding Neverland” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” it’s fascinating to see Highmore take on a more mature role, demonstrating his versatility as an actor.
In the British series “The Good Doctor,” actor Freddie Highmore takes on a new role as he attempts to rob the Bank of Spain, a thrilling adventure that can now be streamed on Netflix in the United Kingdom, titled “The Vault.”
2021’s suspenseful movie features Highmore as a brilliant 21-year-old engineer, determined to crack an apparently impenetrable vault to recover an ancient, fabled treasure.
The movie also stars Game of Thrones star Liam Cunningham and X-Men star Famke Janssen.
Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Sam Riley, Luis Tosar, and José Coronado are also part of this cast. Astrid Bergès-Frisbey is known for ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’, Sam Riley for ‘Maleficient’, Luis Tosar from ‘Sky High’, and José Coronado from ‘The Snow Girl’.
The story, titled “The Vault,” begins by unveiling an enchanting artifact, hidden deep beneath the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, which was submerged back in 1645 amidst the conflicts between Sir Francis Drake and the Spanish Armada.
Approximately 300 years after its sinking, a team of underwater explorers, headed by Walter (Cunningham), discovered it. However, Spanish customs officials confiscated it upon its retrieval from the sea.
With a firm resolve, Walter organizes a crew with the intent of burglarizing the Bank of Spain. Among his chosen associates is a gifted and youthful engineer named Thom (Highmore).
Eager for a test, Thom discards the prospect of a bright future to demonstrate that he can accomplish what seems impossible without being discovered.
To surmount all the hurdles, even the unbeatable security head of the bank, Gustavo (Coronado), the gang chooses the optimal moment – the day of Spain’s World Cup Final, when everyone is preoccupied with watching the match instead.
The film is helmed by Jaume Balagueró, who jointly directed the acclaimed horror movie REC, and features screenplays penned by Rowan Athale, Michel Gaztambide, Borja Glez Santaolalla, Andres Koppel, and Rafa Martínez.
Amongst his recent works, “The Vault” is one of Highmore’s latest films. Additionally, he lent his voice to the character of the Duke of Cheshire in the 2023 animated film titled “The Canterville Ghost“.
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but recognize that the actor has left an indelible mark in my heart and on the small screen through his portrayal of Dr. Shaun Murphy in the critically acclaimed ABC medical drama, The Good Doctor. Regrettably, this remarkable series concluded its seven-season run in May this year.
The Vault is now available to watch on Netflix in the UK.
