The Golden Bachelor’s Nicolette slams edit that ‘cut her story’ down to a minute – as she reveals struggle to bond with ‘robot-like’ Bear Myrden

Nicolette, a contestant on The Golden Bachelor, has spoken out after being eliminated, saying the show didn’t accurately portray her and essentially made her seem unimportant, even though she filmed for almost two weeks.

The 55-year-old singer, originally from New South Wales, joined the show to highlight that it’s possible to find love at any age. She’s disappointed that a significant part of her story – including becoming a mother through IVF treatment abroad when she was 46 – wasn’t included in the final edit.

‘I was very disappointed in the way I was portrayed,’ she told Daily Mail on Thursday.

I felt misrepresented. People saw me as someone who simply appeared and didn’t contribute, but that doesn’t reflect who I am. I’ve had a full and challenging life, overcome many difficulties, and none of that was reflected in how I was portrayed.

Nicolette, originally from New Zealand, moved to Australia at 17 to pursue her dream of becoming a singer. She hopes the show will be a way to inspire others.

I hoped to inspire younger generations by demonstrating that getting older doesn’t have to be negative – it can be a positive and enjoyable experience. I also wanted to contribute to something empowering for women, but unfortunately, the opportunity never came.

Okay, so I just found out she filmed for, like, ten to fourteen days… and she’s only on screen for less than a minute?! It’s insane! I mean, all that work, all that dedication… and they barely show her! It’s absolutely criminal, honestly. I need to see all that lost footage – every single second!

Filming the scene where we first spent the night alone took three days. We had to wear the same clothes each day to make it look continuous, but the final aired version only showed a few seconds of us interacting with Bear.

Nicolette also talked about how well she connected with Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden on camera, admitting their connection wasn’t always strong.

‘He was very robot-like at the start,’ she admitted.

He seemed sincere, but definitely anxious and a little unprepared. He didn’t say much to me, but he opened up more when talking to the more outgoing people.

Despite speculation, Nicolette says she wasn’t set up as a villain.

She insisted it wasn’t her, but felt Catherine was treated unfairly in how she was depicted. She described Catherine as a naturally beautiful and genuine person, and believed the portrayal didn’t reflect that.

The singer also revealed that producers cut countless light-hearted moments between the women.

She felt the second episode had a lot of promising comedic moments that were cut, and replaced with scenes focused on sadness and conflict.

Now at home with her son, Nicolette says she doesn’t regret a thing. She finally became a mother, after years of hoping and using IVF to conceive.

It’s definitely disappointing, but I don’t have any regrets. The women who remain have incredible experiences that need to be shared.

She also explained that every contestant had a deeply personal and compelling reason for participating, stories that the audience never got to see.

I really thought this show could change the game for reality television – offer something positive and uplifting. Sadly, it ended up falling into the same patterns as everything else we’ve seen before. It’s disappointing, honestly, because there was so much potential to do something different.

Overall, it’s still worth watching. It’s just disappointing that the stories of so many women, including my own, weren’t shared.

And while her time on the show was brief, Nicolette hopes it sparks a wider conversation.

She suggested they share the unused footage online, explaining that everyone involved had important contributions to make. They were told their perspectives would be included, and that’s all anyone hoped for, she added.

This happened after Nicolette publicly spoke out on Instagram, claiming producers had completely left her storyline out of the show. She posted a defiant message accusing them of this editing.

‘I went on a show to inspire and empower women,’ she wrote over a bright pink background.

They decided to leave out the important parts of my story and just focus on my appearance, portraying me as shallow. That’s just part of being in the public eye, I guess.

I was so touched by Nicolette’s message! She basically said she has no regrets and encouraged everyone to continue supporting these incredible women. It really means a lot to me, and I’m definitely still watching!

I’m excited to introduce my new friends, and I think you’ll love them. Honestly, I’m a little bummed, but I’m old enough to admit it and feel however I want!
