The From season 3 finale reveals the big reason why people are stuck in the town

As a dedicated fan who has been entangled in the enigmatic web of From for three captivating seasons, I must say that the latest finale left me utterly spellbound. With spoilers lurking ahead for those yet to witness the season 3 denouement, let’s delve into the mesmerizing intricacies that unfolded.

Three seasons filled with mysteries and numerous unresolved questions reached their peak in what might be the most enlightening episode from From so far. Proceed with caution if you haven’t seen the From season 3 finale yet.

In the tenth episode of a two-part story arc, we discover, near the end of the season, why people are magnetically drawn to this particular town and find themselves unable to leave. Ever since the series began, viewers have been curious about both how individuals arrive in this place and what keeps them there. This episode finally explains this mystery and provides insight into the reasons these specific characters are in town, or at least gives us significant clues.

A long time ago, prior to the town’s establishment as we know it, the initial inhabitants performed an abominable act. They offered up seven children as a sacrifice, hoping to gain eternal life – essentially striking a deal with a legendary figure often associated with evil. Since then, the town has been trapped in a recurring pattern of events.

In a different world, an individual was destined to protect the young ones to prevent the completion of the eternal life ceremony. However, this person repeatedly failed and met their demise, only to be reborn and try once more. The latest reincarnation is Smiley, the monster that the townspeople thought they had vanquished. This revival underscores the fact that these monsters are seemingly indestructible or will inexplicably resurface if they appear to have perished.

Past lives

Previously, Tabitha was known as Miranda, Victor’s mother, and she also acknowledges that Jade represents a newer form of Christopher. They shared a child together, although the child’s true identity remains undisclosed. Both Miranda and Christopher were reincarnations of individuals who came before them, but we are unsure of who the original people were. The finale does not reveal if any other town residents have been reborn, however, considering this possibility, it seems plausible that everyone in town is connected in some manner.

As a gamer, I can now see why the White-robed figure is evasive with his answers. It’s the reason he vented to Victor in the final act. He had attempted to warn Christopher earlier, but it only hastened Miranda’s demise. It seems the White-robed one realized that it’s more effective when the townsfolk uncover the truth on their own, as it boosts their belief and comprehension of the direness of the situation. Perhaps now, we have a chance to alter our course, maybe even halt this endless cycle.

The ending suggests that things really are changing in a major way

Towards the final moments, an enigmatic and ominous figure in a yellow jacket unexpectedly appears, fatally striking Jim. This man hinted that Jim should have prevented his wife from disclosing secrets, suggesting that her recalling her past as Miranda wasn’t part of the planned sequence of events. It seems this could be the first instance where one of these “cycles” has been disrupted by someone regaining their memory. Jim appears to pay for his actions, possibly due to his role in helping Jade solve the bottle code, which turned out to be a song all along.

In an unexpected turn, a character named Julie, seemingly from a future timeline, arrives before Jim’s demise, with the intention of preventing it. Regrettably, her efforts fail. Earlier in the storyline, present-day Julie and Ethan had pondered the concept of time travel, with Ethan labeling her as a “temporal explorer.” It appears that she may only be able to witness events rather than alter them, which seems to hold true so far.

It’s an ideal moment to revisit the series “From” as numerous subtle hints and foreshadowing have been building up to these major revelations since its debut. We now understand why a monster questioned Julie about her recognition, and we’ve spotted the man in yellow in some of Miranda’s old artworks. Keep an eye out for these clues, as it will be thrilling to re-watch the show with a fresh perspective before the fourth season begins.
