Neople and Nexon are marking the one-year anniversary of their Soulslike RPG, The First Berserker: Khazan. In a recent online message, creative director Junho Lee announced that more content is on the way and shared some game statistics, such as the number of players who have completed the story, as reported by Gematsu.
Lee explained that he put everything he had into creating Khazan, considering it a career-defining project. He felt completely spent by the 2025 launch, believing he’d given it his all. However, he was then overwhelmed by the incredible support from players who embraced the game, offered valuable feedback, and encouraged the team.
All of that work actually energized the entire development team – we felt even more motivated than when we first started building the game.
Lee shared that 35% of players completed the game on the Normal setting. Of those who continued, 40% uncovered the game’s true ending, while 25% pursued a darker path. Regarding boss battles, players struggled the most with Viper on the Expert difficulty, facing over 17.7 million defeats. Volbano proved to be the second most challenging boss, causing over 16 million deaths, and Maluca came in third, with over 12 million player deaths.
Playing on the hardest difficulty, players died the most trying to defeat Maluca, failing 206,169 times. Ozma proved to be the second most challenging boss, with 154,202 deaths, and Elamein came in third with 151,835. Across all difficulty levels, players have collectively died a total of 273,804,045 times during boss fights.
Beyond boss battles, players have died in a variety of ways. Falling was a major cause, responsible for over 20 million deaths. Harmful status effects led to over 5.5 million deaths, and traps caused 2.2 million. The most dangerous regular enemies were the Prince Spider, Lunatic Destroyer, and Wild Bear.
Spears were the slightly most popular main weapon, chosen by 38% of players. Dual wielding came in a close second at 37%, and Greatswords were used by 25%. Looking at specific weapons, the Bloodthirsty Fiend’s Dual Wield was the most common, followed by the Sentinel’s Greatsword and the Survivor’s Spear. Surprisingly, players also managed to defeat 43 bosses using only their fists – no weapons at all!
In terms of defensive companions, players favored the Bloodthirsty Fiend most often, with the Crimson Fiend and Golden Fiend also being popular choices. For Phantoms, Kenta the Unyielding was by far the most-used, selected over 23 million times, while Wulfric the Resilient was chosen nearly 7 million times. When improving their characters, players focused heavily on increasing their Endurance, doing so over 37 million times.
Dedicated players have created their own difficult challenges within the game, and the current record for completing it is just two hours and ten minutes. This incredibly fast time means one player defeated all 16 bosses in The First Berserker: Khazan in under two and a half hours. Some bosses were defeated remarkably quickly – Reese in 17 seconds, Aratra in 13 seconds, and Shactuka in 16 seconds.
The studio is creating a special armor and weapon set called the Immortal Fury Set for The First Berserker: Khazan. This set will be a free bonus for everyone who owns the game.
You can now play The First Berserker: Khazan on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Read our review to learn more!
