Before her death, Brigitte Bardot reportedly told her estranged son, Nicolas-Jacques Charrier, something shocking: she wished she’d had a dog instead of him.
The actress, famous worldwide as a sex symbol earlier in her career, later dedicated herself to animal rights. She died at the age of 91 in Toulon following a period in the hospital.
In 1960, Brigitte had a son, Nicolas, during her marriage to actor Jacques Charrier. They had co-starred together in the movie ‘Babette Goes to War’.
She once described her pregnancy as a terrible misfortune and never embraced being a mother.
In her memoir, she described looking at her flat stomach in the mirror as if it were a beloved friend she was sadly saying goodbye to.
Following her divorce from Jacques in 1962, Nicolas didn’t see his mother for many years because of things she said to him.

Her son later sued the actress for defamatory statements and non-payment of alimony.
Later in life, Brigitte seemed to shift how she talked about her strained relationship with Nicolas-Jacques.
In a June 2024 interview with Paris Match, she revealed she had made a promise to Nicolas not to discuss him during interviews.
Everyone was obsessed with Brigitte and Jacques, constantly seeing them everywhere! But Nicolas? He was different. He deliberately stayed out of the public eye, completely avoiding the cameras. It was almost… mysterious, and honestly, it just made me admire him more. He valued his privacy, and I totally get it. While they were living their lives on display, he quietly lived his own, and it was perfect.
Now 65 years old, he’s a businessman who, with his wife Anne-Line Bjerkan – a Norwegian model – founded the popular children’s brand, Choupette.
The couple had two daughters, Théa and Anna, and eventually became grandparents to three grandchildren.
Brigitte Macron shared in an interview with Le Point last year that she has two granddaughters and three great-grandchildren.
She explained that she’s the great-grandmother to three young children living in Norway, and she doesn’t often get to see them, nor do they speak French.

Brigitte hadn’t been feeling well for months and had been in and out of the hospital often.
Last October, she had to issue a statement clarifying she was alive after a social media personality falsely claimed she had died.
She used X to let everyone know that she was okay and wasn’t planning on going anywhere, despite recent false rumors about her disappearance. She called out whoever started the rumors, saying, ‘Just so you know,’ she’s doing fine and isn’t backing down.
After receiving treatment for a health issue for three weeks, she returned to her home in Saint-Tropez.
The actress had been married and divorced three times before finding lasting happiness with her fourth husband, Bernard d’Ormale, whom she married in 1992. She stopped acting in 1973 to dedicate herself to her strong commitment to animal rights.
She faced criticism for her involvement with far-right politics, including publicly supporting Marine Le Pen, the leader of the National Rally, and being penalized on six occasions for promoting racial hatred.
Oh, it just breaks my heart to think about it. She really withdrew from everything towards the end. She didn’t want to be seen, you know? She just wanted peace and quiet, completely hidden away on her beautiful estate in Saint Tropez. It was so private, so secluded… she just needed to be left alone there, I guess. It’s where she found her solace.
