Who could forget the beginning of that show? The opening credits showed bustling California beaches filled with people sporting deep tans, all set to that iconic piano tune and Jimi Jamison’s unforgettable voice as he sang the opening lines of ‘I’m Always Here.’
It had to be Baywatch – the TV show famous for launching the careers of many actors, dramatically rescuing people on screen, and unexpectedly becoming a major part of American pop culture.
Starring David Hasselhoff as the strong and capable Mitch Buchannon, *Baywatch* took a basic idea – lifeguards working in Santa Monica – and became the most popular TV show ever, attracting over a billion viewers per episode at its height in the mid-1990s, despite featuring a largely unknown cast.
Hasselhoff was already a well-known celebrity, famous worldwide for playing the lead in the popular TV series, Knight Rider, so this role felt natural for him.

For many of his fellow actors – including a young Pamela Anderson, Jeremy Jackson, Nicole Eggert, and Yasmine Bleeth – the show was a first taste of fame, and the sudden pressure quickly began to affect them.
Oh, it breaks my heart to even think about it, but even after *Baywatch* ended in 2001, so many of the stars struggled. There were battles with addiction, really tough mental health issues, and honestly, some awful rumors and legal problems that just kept following them around. It was so sad to watch, even from afar.
With the show planned to return next year with a completely new group of actors – a risky move by Fox who’s skipping the usual pilot season – it’s natural to ask what became of the original lifeguards from Santa Monica beach.
1. DAVID HASSELHOFF (MITCH BUCHANNON)

David Hasselhoff was born in Baltimore, Maryland on July 17, 1952, and later earned a theater degree from the California Institute of the Arts.
Before becoming famous as Mitch Buchannon on Baywatch, David Hasselhoff had several other roles. He appeared on the soap opera The Young and the Restless for seven years, starting in 1975, and also starred in the films Caught With Their Pants Down and Starcrash. He gained further recognition for his role in the action series Knight Rider, which earned him the People’s Choice Award for Most Popular Actor.
After the first season, Baywatch was almost canceled, but David Hasselhoff personally invested his own money to save it. He ultimately became the show’s most consistent star, appearing in over 200 episodes across its 10-season run.
This role would kickstart a successful music career, unexpectedly make him a star in Germany – including a memorable performance on the Berlin Wall – and keep him appearing on TV for years after the show finished.
Throughout his career, he released over ten albums, with four achieving platinum status and three going gold. He also consistently sold out concerts on his many world tours.
Additionally, a duet he performed with Filipino singer Regine Velasquez served as the main theme song for his 1998 movie, Legacy.
Throughout his career, he appeared in several popular films and television projects, including *The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie*, *DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story*, *Eurotrip* (2004), *Click*, and the *Sharknado* films (*Oh Hell No!* and *The 4th Awakens*).
He also had a brief appearance in the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel.

He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1996, recognizing his contributions to the entertainment world. Then, in 2000, he first appeared on Broadway in the musical Jekyll & Hyde.
Oh my gosh, you won’t BELIEVE how much I love him! He was a judge on *America’s Got Talent* for, like, the first four seasons – seriously iconic. And get this, he even *tried* to compete on *Dancing With the Stars* – Season 11, to be exact – but poor thing, he was the first to go! Still, he’s a star, and he even judged *Britain’s Got Talent* for a season. He’s just… everywhere, and I love it!
He first married actress Catherine Hickland in 1984, but they divorced in 1989. Later that year, he married actress Pamela Back, and they had two daughters: Taylor, born in 1990, and Hayley, born in 1992.
After divorcing in 2006, David Hasselhoff later married Hayley Roberts in 2018.

Despite achieving great success, the actor has faced personal hardships, including a public struggle with alcohol addiction.
In 2007, a humiliating video of him trying to eat a hamburger while drunk went viral after his daughter, Taylor-Ann, shared it, forcing him to confront his problems with alcohol.
He later told The Standard that his daughters were key in helping him realize he needed to change his behavior, as he was going out too much and focusing too much on himself.
It’s normal for teenagers to be less than truthful with their parents – most of us have been there. Having worked with many celebrity families, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges fathers and daughters face as they navigate these years.
We all want to make the world a better place, but taking care of our children has to come first. It begins with being truthful with ourselves and with them – that’s the message I always share.
2 PAMELA ANDERSON (CJ PARKER)

Born on July 1st, 1967, in Canada, Anderson started her career as a fitness instructor after graduating in 1985.
Her rise to fame began in 1989 when she appeared on the big screen at a baseball game. Labatt Beer saw her and decided to hire her as a model.
She appeared on the cover of Playboy magazine that year, and a year after that, she moved to Los Angeles, California.
For over twenty years, she was a Playboy model, appearing on more covers than anyone else in the magazine’s history. She’s also been featured on the covers of other prominent magazines like GQ, W, Marie Claire, and Elle throughout her career.
Oh my gosh, I still remember when she first started out! It was amazing – she moved to LA and *immediately* got a part on ‘Home Improvement’! But then… then she became C.J. Parker on ‘Baywatch’! I was obsessed! She was absolutely incredible for four whole seasons, from season three all the way to seven. It was the beginning of everything!
Even after the show ended, her career continued to flourish.
Oh my gosh, where do I even *begin* with her amazing filmography? I mean, she was incredible in ‘Good Cop, Bad Cop’ and totally rocked ‘Barb Wire’! And don’t even get me started on ‘V.I.P.’ – I was obsessed with that show! Then she was hilarious guest-starring on ‘The Nanny’ with Fran Drescher, and ‘Stacked’ was just pure comedy gold. But honestly, seeing her in ‘Borat’?! Genius. Absolutely genius. She’s been in *so* much good stuff, it’s hard to keep track, but I’ve tried to see it all, believe me!

She released a book called Star in 2004, and its sequel, Star Struck, came out a year later.
After that, Anderson got her own reality show on E! called *Pam: Girl on the Loose* in 2008. She also appeared as a contestant on season four of *Bigg Boss*, which is the Indian version of *Big Brother*.
The popular personality then appeared on the UK version of Big Brother in 2011, followed by two seasons of Dancing with the Stars in 2010 and 2012.
However, it seems that her love life was a little less successful.
Pamela Anderson has been married six times: to Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee, singer Kid Rock, poker player Rick Salomon (twice), producer Jon Peters, and her former bodyguard Dan Hayhurst, from whom she separated in January 2022.
She had two sons with Tommy, named Brandon, born in 1996, and Dylan, born in 1997.

The 2023 documentary, *Pamela: A Love Story*, revealed intimate details of Pamela Anderson’s life, including her complicated relationship with ex-husband Tommy Lee and the widely publicized sex tape they created together.
Anderson explained to Vogue France that she started watching the Netflix project but quickly stopped. ‘It made me upset,’ she said, ‘because I believe some memories are best left untouched, and revisiting them felt painful.’
In an interview with Highsnobriety’s 34th issue, she described relationships as incredibly challenging, calling them ‘one of the hardest things you can do.’
She explained that love is the most valuable thing in life, and being in love takes courage, so it’s something to hold dear. Interestingly, she also believes that being comfortable with solitude is healthy – if you can be alone, you’re better equipped to be in a relationship.
‘I know nothing when it comes to relationships,’ she added.
Following her appearance alongside Liam Neeson in the new Naked Gun film, rumors have surfaced suggesting the two are dating, though the actress hasn’t confirmed the relationship.
3. JEREMY JACKSON (HOBIE BUCHANNON)

Once a popular star, he’s struggled with many personal issues since his early days playing Hobie Buchannon. These include overcoming drug addiction, serving time in jail, and being unexpectedly removed from a British reality show that was meant to relaunch his career.
Born on October 16, 1980, in Newport, California, Jackson started his career very early, appearing in Mattel toy commercials when he was just six years old.
He began his acting career with a significant role in the 1984 TV series *Santa Barbara*, playing the character of young Derek Griffin.
Before becoming known as Hobie Buchannon on Baywatch for nine seasons, the actor appeared in the 1991 film Shout with John Travolta.
He continued his acting career with roles in films like *The Bulkin Trail* (where he received a Youth and Film Award nomination for Best Actor), *Ring of Darkness*, and *Blood Effects*. He also appeared in the series *DTLA* and the coming-of-age movie *Dreams*, among other projects.

Jackson also pursued music, releasing two albums in the mid-90s. He even joined David Hasselhoff as an opening act on his 1993 European concert tour.
He also ventured into fashion, assisting with the marketing of Christian Audigier’s Ed Hardy line and organizing over 150 fashion events for the brand.
Jackson and Loni Willison were married from 2012 to 2014 and seemed to have it all – they were a glamorous couple often seen at high-profile events and featured in many advertising campaigns.
After their relationship ended badly, Willison claimed the actor had violently attacked her, attempting to strangle her. Following this difficult breakup, she struggled with drug addiction and several mental health problems.
Jackson has turned his life around and is now a fitness coach, helping others overcome addiction. He’s been honest about his past difficulties, including a difficult divorce.
In 2015, he tried to revive his career by appearing on Celebrity Big Brother. However, he was removed from the show after a drunken incident where he exposed Chloe Goodman’s breasts in the bathroom.
The celebrity, who was facing difficulties, later admitted to The Sun that their actions were a regrettable error in judgment fueled by alcohol, and they felt deeply embarrassed. While it would be simple to excuse the behavior by blaming the alcohol, they refused to do so, stating they take responsibility for their choices.
‘It’s my fault, and I can’t blame it on anything but me.’
Jackson was later given a police caution for common assault following the incident.

In August, Jackson was arrested for allegedly stabbing a woman near her Los Angeles home following a dispute between the two.
TMZ reported that the actor physically attacked a woman-hitting her arm, leg, and back-after she attempted to stop him from stealing her boyfriend’s car.
He faced charges of assault with a deadly weapon and making criminal threats, offenses that could have resulted in a prison sentence of up to seven years.
That arrest came after the former child star’s April 2015 arrest for assault with a deadly weapon.
A man reported being stabbed nine times, claiming the actor, who has a history of trouble, was attempting to rob him. He stated he needed 177 stitches and three pints of blood as a result of the attack.
In 2017, he faced further legal trouble and received a 270-day jail sentence and five years of probation for stabbing a woman during a dispute.

In a 2006 interview on E!’s Child Star Confidential, Jackson opened up about his struggles with drug addiction and how it had negatively impacted his life.
Oh my god, he said he made like, two or three *million* dollars from Baywatch! It’s just… incredible. But it’s so sad, because he also admitted he had everything to lose. He had all that money, and surrounded himself with people he *thought* were his friends, but they weren’t, and it just pulled him into this awful, self-destructive lifestyle. It breaks my heart to think about it, honestly. He was so vulnerable, even with all the success.
He confessed he used to smoke marijuana daily and used cocaine, but eventually, it lost its effect. He explained that he simply stopped feeling high from the cocaine.
Jeremy Jackson shared that his former co-star, David Hasselhoff, directly confronted him about using drugs. Hasselhoff asked, “Jeremy, are you smoking pot?” Jackson explained he didn’t want to admit to Hasselhoff that he had moved on to harder drugs like cocaine, ecstasy, and speed, saying it had been years since he used marijuana.
Growing up in the spotlight was tough, and Jackson eventually decided to leave the show. He later explained that he’d become arrogant, believing he was more important than ‘Baywatch’ and that he could succeed on his own.
Let me tell you, there was a point where I just had enough. I walked away from a project – a TV show, actually – and made the firm decision not to return. It wasn’t a graceful exit, I’ll admit! I basically said, ‘That’s it, I’m done,’ and removed myself from the situation. It was a bold move, but I needed to prioritize my well-being.
Jackson’s drug use worsened, and by age 19, he was arrested. He had started with cannabis and cocaine, but his addiction eventually led him to crystal meth.
He admitted he was leaving a house with two duffel bags containing all the ingredients and equipment needed to make methamphetamine.
Police suddenly surrounded me, and I was facing serious charges – potentially seven to thirty-five years in prison – for making methamphetamine. I was in terrible condition: covered in scabs and sores, extremely thin, and very pale.

Honestly, after it happened, my first instinct was to call my mom. I’d made those empty promises so many times before – “This is the last time,” “I’m so sorry,” “It won’t happen again,” “I’ll change” – but when you’re facing the consequences, words just feel… useless. It ended up with a 90-day jail sentence, and it was a really tough time.
The charges related to making the goods were dismissed. I was originally accused of possessing drugs with the intention to sell them. I served my sentence and completed a rehabilitation program. It was likely my fifth time in rehab.
After transitioning from acting to appearances on reality television, Jackson started using steroids, which led to an addiction.
During a 2011 episode of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, he explained how his struggles began. He said it started with healthy habits – going to the gym, working with trainers, and taking acting classes – but his addictive personality made him impatient. He needed to see results immediately, and those healthy routines just weren’t happening fast enough for him.
4. LONI WILLISON

Although Loni Willison wasn’t ever on Baywatch herself, she became connected to the show because of her troubled marriage to David Hasselhoff, known for his role as Mitch Buchannon.
Willison used to be a successful fitness model, appearing in publications like Glam Fit, Flavour Magazine, and Iron Man Magazine.
In the 2010s, her life tragically unraveled. After struggling with mental health and a crystal meth addiction, she experienced divorce, job loss, and ultimately lost her home, leaving her homeless.
In an interview published in May 2023 by X17 Online, she was asked where her life went wrong.
She replied: ‘My ex-husband. Getting married. At least I got divorced… it set everything up.’
The couple had an acrimonious split in 2014 after they had been married for less than two years.
Willison alleged Jackson attempted to strangle her in a physical altercation when they were drunk.
In August 2014, police responded to a call about a domestic dispute at the Los Angeles home of Willison and Jackson, according to the Daily Mail.

She reportedly suffered two broken ribs, a neck injury, and scratches. However, the person involved decided not to pursue legal action, so the case was closed.
In a 2021 interview with The Sun, she explained that she didn’t report the assault because she was afraid and struggling emotionally. She didn’t want to see her attacker, Jeremy, sent to jail.
In 2018 she was first pictured homeless on the streets after years out of the public eye.
She told the Daily Mail that she experienced a mental breakdown in 2016, leading her to believe someone was harming her with electricity. She thought the only way to stop it was by using crystal meth.
The former bodybuilder later told X17 Online she was experiencing severe stomach pain.
She says she’s unable to live indoors because, for almost a year, someone repeatedly shocked her with electricity, and she’s now extremely sensitive to it.
She believes her sensitivity to electricity extends to other materials, such as chemicals, batteries, wiring, and various metals. She feels her body somehow filters these things as well.
5. YASMINE BLEETH (CAROLINE HOLDEN)

Yasmine Bleeth gained significant recognition from her role as Caroline Holden on Baywatch, appearing in seasons five through seven.
She appeared in many different roles, with some of her most notable appearances being in “Heaven or Vegas” with Richard Grieco, the 1999 film “Undercover Angel,” the television series “Nash Bridges,” and “Titans,” among others.
I’ve always admired people who juggle multiple passions! After her time on ‘Baywatch,’ Erika Eleniak continued modeling and even started her own swimwear line, Yaz Wear. But honestly, like so many in the entertainment industry, she also had to navigate some tough challenges along the way. It’s a reminder that success isn’t always a straight line, and everyone faces setbacks.
In 2002, the woman married Paul Cerrito, who owned a strip club. They met while she was receiving treatment for a cocaine addiction.
She had been arrested in 2001, after she drove her car off the highway onto a median strip.

I was really shocked when I heard the news back in November 2001. She ended up taking a plea deal and admitted to having a small amount of cocaine – less than 25 grams, I believe – and also to driving under the influence. It was a tough time for everyone who supported her.
In January 2002, the celebrity received a two-year probation period and was ordered to complete 100 hours of community service.
In an interview with Glamour, Bleeth opened up about her struggles with substance abuse, sharing that her addiction changed her so much her friends barely recognized her.
She remembered her friends telling her she looked like an alien, with her eyes wide and bulging.
Cocaine is more addictive to the mind than the body, and lots of different situations make me want to use it.
6 NICOLE EGGERT (SUMMER QUINN)

Nicole Eggert began her career at a very young age; her mother entered her in beauty pageants as a baby.
At age five, she was crowned Miss Universe in the petite division.
She also appeared in a Johnson & Johnson commercial, following a similar path to her previous colleague.
Eggert began her acting career at age eight with a part in the film *Rich and Famous*. She then had roles on the TV show *Who’s the Boss* from 1985 to 1986 and in the TV movie *Secrets*. Her most well-known role came when she was cast as Summer Quinn on *Baywatch* for the show’s third and fourth seasons.
She’s also appeared in several other shows and films, including Splash, Married… With Children, Blown Away, The Double 0 Kid, Anything for Love, and Back in the Game.
In 2014, she surprised everyone by leaving acting to pursue her dream of owning and running an ice cream truck.
She made a brief return to television in 2015, appearing on the show *Botched* to undergo a breast reduction procedure.
Eggert was engaged to Canadian actor Corey Haim, but they eventually split. She has two daughters.

The actress revealed to PEOPLE earlier this year that doctors diagnosed her with stage 2 cribriform carcinoma breast cancer in early December 2023.
She admitted the past few months had been really difficult. It hadn’t been an easy time, and while she sometimes relied on cheesy motivational quotes, they ultimately helped her cope.
In September, Eggert shared that she was exhausted by the constant surgeries and chemotherapy she needed to battle cancer, especially since she was also going through menopause.
The news followed the actress’s announcement that she had a second mastectomy and then reconstructive surgery.
In a recent interview on the Pod Meets World podcast, she shared her frustration with ongoing health challenges. She explained that she typically feels well for about two weeks each month, but the remaining two weeks are spent receiving treatment, making it a constant and demanding part of her life.

After finishing chemotherapy, she focused on helping her body recover and spent a lot of time trying different detox methods. However, she often felt like her doctors couldn’t answer all of her questions about these processes.
Honestly, it’s like the doctors just aren’t telling us everything! There’s a whole universe of information out there, so much they *don’t* share with us regular people. It’s frustrating, because I feel like I deserve to know it all, and it’s like they’re holding back!
Eggert explained she’d been looking into ways to make her cancer treatments work their best.
Chemotherapy was incredibly tough, a real battle. They used the most powerful drugs available, and because of that, I won’t be able to have that treatment again. It’s made me think a lot about not just getting better *now*, but figuring out how I ended up in this situation in the first place. I really need to understand the root of all this.
Everyone tells me to stop dwelling on the past, but I need to understand what led me to this situation. I want to figure out what I can do differently in my everyday life to avoid ending up back here again.
The actress shared that she needed chemotherapy before her mastectomies because the cancer was quite large.
She initially chose to have just one breast removed so she could resume chemotherapy quickly. She recently had the second surgery to complete the process.
She shared that she has more surgeries scheduled for next month, and she’s looking forward to them. She explained that she carefully considered her options because she wasn’t sure what the best approach was.
It was honestly overwhelming – so many people offering advice and so many different paths I could take. I really needed time to think things through properly, so I spent a whole year listening to everyone, letting it all sink in. It’s not a choice you make lightly, you know? It’s a huge decision, and I wanted to be absolutely sure.
7. DAVID CHARVET (MATT BRODY)

David Charvet was born on May 15, 1972, in Lyon, France. He began his acting career playing Matt Brody on *Baywatch*, appearing in three seasons of the show (seasons three, four, and five).
After appearing in shows like Melrose Place, Seduced and Betrayed, Angel Flight Down, and Meet Prince Charming, he decided to stop acting in 1999 and pursue a career in music.
Charvet quickly caught the attention of Universal Music Group France and went on to release three pop rock albums that have collectively sold over two million copies.
Despite trying to retire, he found himself drawn back to acting in 2006, appearing in the horror film *Prisoners of the Sun* and the comedy-drama *Green Flash*.
He also competed in ABC’s reality show The Superstars in 2009.

He married Brooke Burke, the host of Dancing With the Stars, in 2011, and they had two children. They divorced in 2020.
In 2023, Charvet was accused of threatening his former girlfriend, Kate Boskovich, and became the subject of a criminal investigation.
According to law enforcement sources at TMZ, the 50-year-old actor and his partner had recently broken up and were arguing intensely about how they each lived their lives.
According to the report, Boskovich claims Charvet warned her things would not go well, and this caused her to feel afraid.
According to reports, the accusations are expected to be reviewed by the prosecutor’s office, who will then decide if there’s enough evidence to pursue legal action.
Charvet maintained that the LAPD never reached out to him and that he didn’t know about any accusations against him.
8. ALEXANDRA PAUL (STEPHANIE HOLDEN)

Alexandra Paul was born in New York City on July 29, 1963. She started her career as a model and later moved to Los Angeles to become an actress.
She began her acting career in the 1982 TV movie, Paper Dolls, and soon after appeared in several other projects.
She appeared in a variety of films, including the horror movie *American Nightmare*, *Christine* from 1983, the comedy *Just the Way You Are*, the sports drama *American Flyers* with Kevin Costner, *8 Million Ways to Die* featuring Jeff Bridges, Rosanna Arquette, and Andy Garcia, and *Dragnet* alongside Tom Hanks, among others.
She began playing Stephanie Holden on Baywatch in 1992, appearing in the show for four seasons – from season three through six.
She continued her acting career, landing roles in films like Death Train, Nightwatch (starring Pierce Brosnan and Christopher Lee), Christine, the horror film The Paperboy, and the 1996 movie Spectre. She also appeared in 15 different Lifetime movies.
She created and directed two documentaries: *Jampacked* and *The Cost of Cool: Finding Happiness in a Materialistic World*.

Despite her success in Hollywood, Paula also built a fulfilling personal life. She married Ian Murray in 2000 and they created a life together.
Even though she’s no longer known for her famous red swimsuit, the athlete stays in incredible shape by running regularly and often competes in marathons.
In 2015, she became a certified health coach and started her own wellness coaching brand.
In 2021, the Baywatch actress obtained a restraining order against a woman who had allegedly harassed her for ten years. The woman also reportedly hit the actress’s husband, Ian, with a car.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the incidents began in late 2011 when a woman named Nicole Albrecht first came to the 58-year-old’s home.
The court instructed Albrecht to stay at least 100 yards away from the couple and prohibited him from contacting them, the news source reported.
Paul later thought Albrecht might have been attracted to her, possibly because the show was very popular in Germany, Albrecht’s home country.
9. ERIKA ELENIAK (SHAUNI MCCLAIN)

Erika Eleniak began her acting career at age 12 with a role in the movie E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.
Before becoming known as Shauni McClain on Baywatch, she appeared in the 1988 film *The Blob* and the television series *Charles in Charge*.
As someone who’s spent a lot of time on sets, I can tell you that the best productions *feel* like family, and that’s exactly what the actress described about her three seasons playing Shauni. She shared with Fox back in 2018 that the whole experience was incredibly close-knit – a real group of ‘brothers and sisters,’ as she put it. She really emphasized how amazing the cast and crew were, and that sense of camaraderie is something you can actually *feel* when a show is truly special.
In 1992, Eleniak surprised and disappointed fans when she announced she was leaving the show to focus on a career in movies.
She explained to the publication that she didn’t regret her decision to leave the show, as she felt it was becoming too sexually suggestive and she wasn’t comfortable with that direction.
When our show began, it aired on NBC, and back then, NBC was known as the most traditionally-minded network. There were limits to what we could depict or discuss on television.
‘It did take a different direction, but it is what made the show a phenomenon,’ Erika continued.
It felt like a completely different program, and honestly, I wasn’t comfortable with how suggestive it was. It just wasn’t my style.

After appearing on Full House as the girlfriend of John Stamos’ character, Uncle Jessie, she continued to build a successful career with many other acting roles.
After that, Eleniak appeared in the action film *Under Siege*, Dennis Hopper’s *Chasers*, *Girl in the Cadillac* with William McNamara, and a variety of smaller, independent movies.
In addition to her other work, she appeared in Playboy magazine and was a contestant on the reality show *The Real Gilligan’s Island* in 2005.
Eleniak wed bodybuilder Philip Goglia in 1998, but they divorced after just six months. She later married Roch Daigle and they had a daughter together.
She currently lives a quiet life in California, but was recently seen with a complete tattoo covering her entire arm.
