The Duskbloods: Everything we know about FromSoftware’s Bloodborne successor

Embrace the old blood.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Showcase was an exciting spectacle filled with numerous fantastic game unveilings and updates. Among all these, the announcement that truly grabbed attention was The Duskbloods, a new game by the creators behind Dark Souls and Elden Ring.

The Duskbloods trailer left us reflexively mimicking Leonardo DiCaprio’s famous “TV screen” meme due to its striking similarity to the much-adored game, Bloodborne, by FromSoftware.

As a dedicated PlayStation fan for years, I’ve eagerly anticipated a Bloodborne sequel or even a remastered version of the original masterpiece. Regrettably, our beloved Japanese gaming titan hasn’t yet fulfilled these desires. However, another esteemed Japanese company has stepped up to the plate by partnering with FromSoftware to create a game that appears to be a spiritual successor to Bloodborne.

However, despite The Duskbloods sharing a striking resemblance to Victorian-era art style and an unusual fixation on the term “blood” among its characters, it’s not Bloodborne 2 as we know it. Instead, it presents a different universe with blood-drinking vampires, shape-shifting dinosaurs, and deserted railway yards – all of which are quite distinct from Yharnam.

Here, we delve into all the information available on The Duskbloods, covering topics like its launch date, narrative, and play mechanics.

When is The Duskbloods release date?

In 2026, you can expect the game “The Duskbloods” to make its debut, available only on the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. At this point, we’re uncertain if it’s a temporary exclusive or not, but given Nintendo’s history, it seems plausible that it will be an ongoing exclusivity.

Since 2018’s Déraciné, Duskbloods will mark FromSoftware’s initial console-exclusive release, bearing a strong resemblance to Bloodborne in its inspiration.

Noteworthy to mention, Hidetaka Miyazaki is taking the helm for The Duskbloods. This marks his first directorial role since Elden Ring in 2022. On April 4, FromSoftware will release a fresh interview featuring insights from Miyazaki about the game’s themes and setting.

Is the Duskbloods a multiplayer title?

Absolutely, The Duskbloods shares similarities with Elden Ring Nightreign, being a multiplayer game. As FromSoftware puts it, it’s an action title that emphasizes player versus player versus environment (PvPvE) combat. In this game, up to eight players engage in intense battles against each other and fearsome monsters reminiscent of Bloodborne. The ultimate goal is to emerge as the “First Blood.

It’s uncertain whether each player will work independently or if they can form teams, but a scene from the game’s reveal trailer hints at the possibility of summoning other players for assistance. If this feature is included, cooperative play in Duskbloods might resemble other well-known FromSoftware games.

Who do you play in the Duskbloods?

In the game Duskbloods, you assume the role of a member from the “Twilight Blood Clan,” extraordinary beings endowed with unique powers through their distinct bloodline. You will have the option to pick one of eight different character classes, each showcasing its abilities in the unveiling video.

In a different setting, there’s a bloodsucker capable of leaping from great heights and draining an adversary’s spirit. At some point during the preview, you notice a figure wearing a humorous metallic armor floating over a gloomy terrain using a jetpack.

As a gamer, I can’t help but notice a character reminiscent of the Doll from Bloodborne, dressed like a nun and floating around, smashing foes with her supernatural abilities. Another intriguing figure in Japanese garb is patrolling the station, armed with some sort of circular melee weapon, keeping a keen eye on the surroundings.

As a member of the Twilight Blood Clan in Duskbloods, I’ve got a handful of characters to choose from. Fingers crossed, we’ll be getting a deep dive into the unique traits and abilities of each of these eight distinct archetypes soon!

Here’s what we currently understand regarding the upcoming exclusive multiplayer game for Nintendo Switch 2, titled “The Duskbloods,” by FromSoftware.
