The-Dream claims former protégé accuser sent racy text messages as she pursued him for sex in explosive court papers

As a woman who has spent a significant part of my life chasing dreams and striving for success in the cutthroat world of music, I can’t help but feel deeply saddened by the stories that have come to light about The-Dream (Terius Nash) and his alleged abuse.

In response to accusations of rape, sexual assault, and sex trafficking made by a former female protegee in a lawsuit, hitmaker The-Dream has countered with shocking claims of his own against the singer.

Reportedly, the music producer, known as Terius Gesteelde-Diamant, is being accused of keeping Chanaaz Mangroe in an abusive relationship marked by harmful sexual behavior and brutal mental torment, as documented in court papers submitted today at the U.S. District Court in Central California.

46-year-old The-Dream’s legal team submitted paperwork on Friday requesting the dismissal of the case, using strongly worded court filings.

According to court documents, the renowned musician alleges that Mangroe, a woman from the Netherlands, made inappropriate sexual advances towards him soon after their first encounter, by gesturing towards his private parts and asking “is there something I can assist you with?” This behavior is said to have been reported in the motion.

Lawyers representing The-Dream countered her lawsuit by accusing it of being an attempt to extort money, specifically targeting a “prominent African-American artist” in the entertainment field as a means to secure a settlement.

1. They claim that it is filled with approximately 300 passages that are mostly unrelated, incorrect, and deliberately misconstrued accusations. Additionally, they suggest that it exploits harmful racial prejudices for its purpose.

As per the court documents, Mangroe’s actions were aimed at tarnishing his reputation, specifically focusing on undermining all his musical accomplishments and his identity as a Black figure. This was intended to negatively impact his marriage with his third wife, Lalonne Martinez.

In the motion to dismiss, the lawyers for the music-maker emphasize by bolding it that he was neither a victim of Diamant, nor has he ever been – period.

According to the documents, it is stated that the individuals were involved in a short, mutually agreed-upon romantic relationship. It’s important to clarify that non-consensual sexual activity did not occur between them. Furthermore, there was no instance of sex being exchanged for money or any commercial benefits, and Diamant never mistreated the Plaintiff in any manner.

Additionally, they make another strong counterargument by claiming that Mangroe persistently pursued the singer-songwriter even years after their short-lived romance in approximately 2015.

According to the document, the Plaintiff frequently reached out to Diamant over a long period following their relationship, asking for sexual encounters and various other favors, sometimes in written form, even when Diamant declined his requests.

For the first time, Mangroe crossed paths with The-Dream through a mutual friend who facilitated the introduction. At that point, he wasn’t familiar with her – but as the story goes, not long after their meeting, she apparently made a remark about genitalia, based on the documents.

After their separation, she carried on with the same topic. In June 2016, Mangroe allegedly sent unusual, explicit messages to The-Dream, making him feel uneasy about the interactions, according to his legal representatives.

He responded to tell her was ‘out of line’. But she continued and sent an emoji intended to signify male genitals ejaculating next to a smiling licking tongue emoji.

The father of four, known as The-Dream, communicated that he was spending time with his children. However, Mangroe persisted in messaging, expressing: “You touched my emotions… My thoughts are racing… I need to pull myself together.”

The documents suggest that Mangroe exploited Diamant’s wide-ranging network for a long time, seeking special treatment and backing for her own advantage.

In July, 2023, she was still reflecting on her courtship’s conclusion by reaching out to the friend who connected them, asking that friend to convey her “greetings” to The-Dream. Moreover, she openly expressed the deep admiration she held for him.

The motion to dismiss also accuses Mangroe of framing a shock media campaign to inflict maximum damage.

On the cover page of her grievance, she added a substantial notice, similar to a warning label, marked prominently – this document was forwarded to The New York Times prior to its submission to the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.

The lawsuit she filed contains numerous untruths intended to tarnish Diamant’s good name, as well as causing harm to people close to him, specifically his children, spouse, and extended family – individuals whom Diamant holds dearest, according to the motion to throw out the case.

Legal representatives for The-Dream have accused Mangroe and colleagues at law firm Wigdor of making baseless allegations against Diamant, labeling him as a misogynist, an absent parent, and a perpetrator of domestic abuse.

Absolutely, the children of Diamant have experienced cyberbullying and social mistreatment due to the Defendant’s dissemination of untrue allegations.

1. These attacks on a person’s reputation serve no purpose when it comes to backing up any legal arguments; instead, they seem unnecessary and aim to put Diamant in a position where he might have to compromise or risk losing valuable relationships.

The new filing says the complaint should be thrown out because it is an ‘improper shotgun pleading’. These are where there are many allegations but none of them specific enough for a defendant to respond properly to them.

The paperwork that comes with the motion to dismiss contains an eight-page letter that charges Mangroe with making numerous, completely unrelated accusations throughout.

I find myself in agreement with the sentiment that these seem unrelated to the current case and are seemingly added merely to tarnish Diamant’s reputation or instill bias against him.

In a similar vein, it ends by stating: ‘The accusations made by the plaintiff in her claim are numerous and unrelated to her charges of sexual battery and human trafficking. Instead, they appear to be aimed at tarnishing the name and reputation of Diamant.’

As someone who has gone through my fair share of life experiences, I can empathize with a person like Diamant, whose past is as complex and multifaceted as a diamond itself. The references to his multiple marriages, the number of children he’s fathered, and their identities are aspects of his history that shape him as a person, just as my own relationships have molded me.

Regarding the allegation, lawyers argue that according to California’s legal system, ‘civil law does not recognize ‘rape’ as a standalone basis for filing a lawsuit.’

Regarding the sex-trafficking allegation, I’ve been unable to present a case that demonstrates the necessary elements of force, threats, deception, or compulsion in a commercial transaction, as required.

The letter concludes: ‘In accordance with the points mentioned earlier, the Defendants plan to submit motions aimed at discarding each of the Plaintiff’s claims, as well as eliminating any irrelevant and excessive accusations they’ve made… unless the parties can settle these matters without requiring court intervention.’

In the lawsuit, Mangroe’s previous label, Contra-Paris LLC, is also implicated. The accusation is that it didn’t take any action despite allegedly being aware of incidents relevant to the claims. However, they contend that as a Delaware company, they are not responsible for actions taking place in California.

Desiree F. Moore, who represents both defendants, explained to DailyMail.com that the complaint is similar to a scattershot argument and should be discarded entirely because it doesn’t assign particular factual claims to each defendant.

If there are no details suggesting that the Plaintiff participated in a ‘business-related sexual activity’, then her lawsuit accusing Diamant of sex trafficking should be thrown out.

Mangroe claims that The-Dream deceived her into a romantic involvement by making misleading assurances about kickstarting her musical career.

At that point in time, as stated in the document, it appears that The-Dream was involved in a harmful, controlling, and abusive relationship with the young artist who seemed particularly vulnerable.

Known for his expertise in recording and abundant songwriting skills, earning him eight Grammy awards, this individual contributed to popular songs like Rihanna’s Umbrella, Justin Bieber’s Baby, Mariah Carey’s Touch My Body, Beyoncé’s Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It), and Break My Soul.

Since 2008, The-Dream has not only developed a strong relationship with Beyoncé but has also contributed to every one of her studio albums, earning credits for his work.

According to a lawsuit, Channii Monroe (also known as Mangroe) allegedly informed someone else that he would help them become the successor of both Beyoncé and Rihanna in the music industry by promoting their career.

Yet, it’s claimed that he manipulated her into a harmful romantic involvement, where she asserted he continually sexually assaulted her and choked her.

Additionally, she asserted that she had fallen victim to the act of non-consensual pornography distribution. Previously, he secretly recorded an intimate moment between them and menaced to disseminate the footage to others.

As stated in her grievance, their encounter transpired in the final months of 2014 when The-Dream contacted her and requested that she share some of her music with him.

In January 2015, Mangroe stated that she went to Atlanta to see him, and there, he took her to a nightclub featuring adult entertainment, and they started recording together.

In her court case, she asserted that the record producer started to exert sexual demands on her shortly after, stating it was an essential aspect of the creative work.

Additionally, she claimed that on one occasion, he took her to a residence containing a studio, confined her in a dimly lit space, and continued to forcefully engage in intimate acts with her until she expressed love for him.

In her court case, Mangroe alleged that the producer consistently refused to utilize a condom, grew progressively aggressive and domineering, and frequently placed a firearm beside her while coercing sexual acts.

In the scorching heat of 2015’s summer, she asserted that she had brought forth allegations of mistreatment to a high-ranking official at Epic, only to be disregarded and advised to find a solution to reconcile with Dream once more.

In the year that followed, she asserted that the prominent record company had let her go due to The-Dream failing to deliver the promised music.

Epic is also named as a defendant in the lawsuit.

Mangroe conveyed to The New York Times that she’s found it impossible to chase her musical aspirations because of the emotional distress stemming from the accusations of mistreatment.

In her own words, she expressed that the actions taken against her significantly hindered my ability to realize the life I had imagined for myself, especially in terms of my aspirations as a singer and songwriter.

In her statement, she went on to say, “Eventually, keeping quiet became unbearably painful for me. I came to understand that sharing my experience is essential for my healing. I pray that by speaking out, I can also aid others and stop such tragic mistreatment from happening again.”

Previously, The-Dream has faced allegations of violent behavior towards women. In 2014, he was indicted for assault following claims by an ex-girlfriend who stated that during her eighth month of pregnancy, he had attacked her by kicking, punching, and choking her.

During the argument, his former partner asserted that he had made statements implying a similar intent as when O.J. Simpson allegedly took Nicole Brown’s life.

Moving forward, the court case against me was discontinued as the prosecution couldn’t establish my involvement in the alleged incident ‘to a degree that would satisfy a logical and prudent person.’ Consequently, all accusations leveled against me were withdrawn.

Previously, The-Dream refuted the claims made by Mangroe to The New York Times, labeling them as “false and slanderous.”

He also told the outlet that he’s ‘deeply offended and saddened’ by them.

He stated that he is against any form of mistreatment and has consistently worked towards assisting others in achieving their professional aspirations. Being dedicated to positively influencing his artistic peers and the global community, he finds the allegations both disturbing and upsetting.

In November 2023, I find myself under the legal representation of the same attorneys who previously defended Casandra ‘Cassie’ Ventura during her lawsuit against Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs.

The legal case, filled with chilling accounts of mistreatment based on the freshly surfaced video showing the troubled rapper brutally assaulting her in a hotel corridor, was quickly resolved only a day following its submission.
