The Diplomat’s Celia Imrie joins cast of highly-anticipated adventure series with iconic characters

Celia Imrie, known for her roles in shows like The Diplomat and Celebrity Traitors, is joining the cast of the upcoming Tomb Raider series. The series, created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) for Prime Video, stars Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones) as Lara Croft.

A skilled archaeologist, known for her fighting abilities, teams up with a diverse group of characters. These include familiar faces from the Tomb Raider video games, as well as characters who were previously minor figures within the larger Tomb Raider story.

I’m playing as Francine in this game, and she’s the Head of Advancement at the British Museum. Basically, she’s all about getting money and enjoying the finer things in life – lots of champagne, you know?

The actor from The Thursday Murder Club stars with several established characters: Zip and Atlas DeMornay, as well as new additions like Lara’s friend, played by Martin Bobb-Semple, and her uncle, portrayed by Jason Isaacs. Bill Paterson plays Winston, the family butler.

Joining Lara in the series are supporting characters from the Tomb Raider world, including her pilot, Gerry, portrayed by Jack Bannon, and government figures David (John Heffernan) and his superior, Thomas Warner (Paterson Joseph).

Sasha Luss stars as Sasha, who opposes Lara. Juliette Motamed plays Georgia, a dedicated curator at the British Museum, and August Wittgenstein is Lukas, a black market thief with a shared past with Lara.

Sigourney Weaver, known for her role in Avatar, plays Evelyn Wallis, a secretive and powerful woman who tries to take advantage of Lara’s skills.

Waller-Bridge said the stacked cast is “beyond [her] wildest dreams”.

The Tomb Raider series is known for its memorable characters, and I’m excited to have included both established favorites and some new personalities in the movie,” she stated.

Taylor Turner, who will be playing Lara Croft – a role previously held by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander – shared her excitement, saying she’s been a longtime fan of Tomb Raider and Lara Croft. She admires Lara’s strength and how she confidently navigates a world often dominated by men, seeing her as a powerful role model for women.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the creator, writer, and an executive producer of the show, is working as co-showrunner with Chad Hodge, who is also an executive producer. Jonathan Van Tulleken is directing and also serving as an executive producer.

Lara Croft will stream on Prime Video.
