The Diplomat star’s cult horror-comedy is now on Netflix
The hit horror-comedy movie “Cocaine Bear,” featuring the talented actress Keri Russell from “The Diplomat,” can now be streamed on Netflix in both the United Kingdom and Ireland.
2023 saw the arrival of a movie I was eagerly anticipating, directed by none other than Elizabeth Banks. This cinematic journey also featured some familiar faces: Jesse Tyler Ferguson from “Modern Family”, O’Shea Jackson Jr known for his work in “Straight Outta Compton”, Alden Ehrenreich who graced us with his presence in “Solo: A Star Wars Story”, and the legendary Ray Liotta, starring in what would be his final role. This film was a tribute to him, dedicated to his memory.
The movie depicts the chaotic events that unfold when a bear encounters a large amount of cocaine and becomes aggressive. Although it’s only loosely based on actual events, this story is inspired by a true incident where drug smugglers lost their supply, which was subsequently ingested by an American black bear.
According to a review by Digital Spy, we commended Banks for her skillful directing and maintaining a more conventional approach in her performance.
Our assessment states that while the idea may seem difficult to take seriously at first glance, the characters respond realistically to their circumstances instead of resorting to humor or jokes.
Additionally, there is effort put into crafting characters that evoke empathy, such as the mother’s quest to find her missing daughter or the son’s struggle against his criminal father who deals drugs.

During the movie’s production, the cast entertained one another with amusing stories, particularly those revolving around the actor who substituted for the bear on set. Ehrenreich added: “Allan [Henry] was fantastic, we became quite close, and we even delved into each other’s personal spaces.
Every aspect and every scent were delightful, making it quite an extraordinary experience. Indeed, it was one of the most bizarre moments, yet fascinatingly enough, our characters are also living through this craziness. So, whenever we find ourselves exclaiming, ‘What on earth!’, we can genuinely respond with the same sentiment.
Cocaine Bear is now available for Netflix UK and Ireland subscribers to stream.
