‘The Devil Wears Prada’ sequel: Here’s what we know so far

A sequel? For spring? Groundbreaking.

Following a gap of 19 years, and some ambiguous signals from the actors involved, it has now been confirmed that “The Devil Wears Prada 2″ is under active development and scheduled for release in cinemas this coming May.

The initial movie, inspired by the 2003 top-selling book penned by Lauren Weisberger, takes place within the ruthless world of fashion in New York City. Here’s what we currently understand about the forthcoming continuation.

Who‘s returning from the original cast?

As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that I, along with countless others, will once again get to see Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and the exceptionally talented Stanley Tucci grace our screens in their beloved roles for the eagerly awaited sequel!

Acting on screen together will be Tracie Thoms, known for her portrayal of Lily, Anne Hathaway’s character Andy Sachs’ friend, and Tibor Feldman, returning to his role as Irv Ravitz, the chairman of Runway’s parent company, Elias-Clarke.

In a return engagement, director David Frankel – known for spearheading a movie that grossed an impressive $326 million globally – is set to come back, as will screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, who has previously collaborated on projects and co-created the hit series “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”.

In the upcoming movie ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise at the Reaping,’ Glenn Close will play Drusilla Sickle, a tribute escort, while Billy Porter has been cast as her estranged husband, Magno Stift.

Who isn’t returning?

In the film, it’s said that the character portrayed by Adrian Grenier, Nate Cooper, who has been nicknamed “the real antagonist” online, will not reappear in the upcoming sequel.

Who’s joining the cast?

Kenneth Branagh is set to join the cast, portraying the role of Miranda Priestly’s husband, with Meryl Streep playing the character herself. Additionally, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, and Pauline Chalamet are notable newcomers to the production.

What‘s “Devil Wears Prada 2” about?

Although specifics about the plot are being kept secret, it is said that the movie focuses on Meryl Streep’s character, Miranda, as she struggles with a struggling magazine publishing business. The story also brings back Emily Charlton, played by Emily Blunt, who has risen to become a top executive. This film takes place nearly a decade after the original and could possibly draw elements from the 2013 sequel book, “Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns.” It’s also hoped that there will be a tribute to Anna Wintour, who served as inspiration for Miranda’s character, as she steps down from her position at Vogue.
