The Devil Wears Prada 2: What to Expect from the Fashionable Sequel in 2026!
Springtime blooms? Quite revolutionary, you might say. But here’s a fun fact: I’m sporting them because word on the street is that “The Devil Wears Prada 2” will be gracing our screens next year!
Approximately two decades ago, Anne Hathaway gained even more fame following the release of “The Devil Wears Prada”. This remarkable film portrays a woman’s journey in the competitive fashion world, where she accepts a challenging position as an assistant to a demanding and ruthless CEO of a popular fashion magazine. In the process, the role significantly transforms her life.
This film has plenty of appealing aspects, such as its stunning wardrobe, its star-studded cast reminiscent of “The Devil Wears Prada,” and many other delightful elements. Excitingly, a follow-up is being developed, and I’m eagerly anticipating its release. Here’s what we have learned so far.
What Is The Devil Wears Prada 2 Release Date?
As I pen this down in May 2025, “The Devil Wears Prada 2” is slated for release on May 1, 2026, as reported by Variety. This upcoming film won’t be part of any 2025 movie lineup, but we can look forward to it gracing the screens in exactly one year from now – marking nearly two decades since the initial film hit theaters on June 30, 2006.
To date, no other significant movies are anticipated to challenge the film during its debut weekend. Other highly-anticipated releases are scheduled for May, including some major premieres. Among these, the screen adaptation of Verity and the long-awaited return of The Mandalorian and Grogu are included. However, as things stand now, Miranda Priestly’s comeback appears to be the only notable event on that weekend.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 Cast

For the upcoming sequel, it’s not entirely clear who else will join the cast, but it’s been confirmed that both Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt are set to reprise their roles. The news of Emily Blunt’s return was first reported in July 2024 by Puck.
Over time, there have been significant shifts since their debut performances in the initial film. Streep subsequently bagged another Oscar for her role in “The Iron Lady” (and garnered additional nominations). Her reputation as a legend has only grown stronger, reinforcing her status and inspiring me to revisit all of Meryl Streep’s top-tier films.
Among Blunt’s standout performances, one that truly propelled her career was the role in “The Devil Wears Prada.” Since then, she has consistently ascended as a leading actress, with memorable roles including those in “The Jane Austen Book Club,” “The Young Victoria,” “Dan in Real Life,” “Looper,” “Edge of Tomorrow,” “A Quiet Place,” and “Oppenheimer,” among others.
It’s quite a treat to see these two stars reprising their roles for the sequel, and I can hardly wait to see them once more as Miranda and Emily Charlton.
In a January 2025 interview with Variety, actor Stanley Tucci, known for portraying Nigel Kipling in the film, has shown enthusiasm about reprising his role.
They are currently working on it, and if successful, I’d be overjoyed, but unfortunately, I can’t provide you with any details. In case it doesn’t happen, I might have to take some drastic measures such as visiting an actor’s jail or something similar. The original experience was truly remarkable.
I’d be thrilled to catch up with Nigel somehow, but there’s a significant issue we haven’t tackled yet…
Will Anne Hathaway Be Back As Andy?
Among Anne Hathaway’s most recognized characters from the past two decades is undeniably Andy from “The Devil Wears Prada.” However, it hasn’t been confirmed if she will reprise her role in the upcoming sequel. Interestingly, before news broke in July 2024 that a movie was being actively developed, Hathaway expressed to E! News in March 2024 that she believed a sequel was unlikely.
I don’t think a continuation of that story is probably ever gonna happen.
Now that over a year has passed and the official release date for “The Devil Wears Prada 2” has been announced, there’s speculation about whether Anne Hathaway might reprise her role. However, considering how Andy and Priestly parted ways on less than ideal terms, it seems unlikely that Andy would return to the world of fashion.
Instead, it wouldn’t bother me if she took on a more secondary role, allowing Emily Blunt’s character to take center stage. Given her background in fashion, this could align well with the movie’s storyline, suggesting that such a development may indeed occur.
What Is The Devil Wears Prada 2 Going To Be About?

As a devoted cinephile, I can’t help but get excited about the upcoming sequel, and here’s why: While traditional print media seems to be losing ground, the way this movie will unfold is something we’ve grown accustomed to.
In the upcoming sequel, I find myself grappling with Miranda’s struggle to adapt as her publication falters amidst the dwindling traditional magazine industry. Now, it appears I’ll be squaring off against Blunt’s character, a high-ranking executive from a luxury conglomerate, who holds the advertising funds essential for my magazine’s survival.
It brings me great joy to witness students transform into masters, and I’m eager to present this progress. Let’s engage in a friendly competition.
Aline Brosh McKenna Is Reportedly Writing The Script

Back in July 2024, Deadline announced that Aline Brosh McKenna, who initially scripted the first movie, was set to rejoin the team for the sequel. Since the release of the original film, McKenna has been involved in various projects, including “27 Dresses”, “We Bought a Zoo”, “Morning Glory”, and “Cruella”. Additionally, she directed the movie titled “Your Place or Mine”.
David Frankel Was Reported To Be “In Talks” To Return

In July 2024, that Deadline report hinted at the possibility of David Frankel, the original director of the first film, returning for the project. Although it’s not a definite confirmation, his name has been the only one in discussions since then, with no other director news emerging. So, as things stand, it appears he might just be the top contender to take the helm again.
Since then, the director has been involved in projects like “Marley & Me”, “The Big Year”, and “Hope Springs”, plus multiple TV show episodes. It’d be fantastic if we got to see him back with this series again.
Talking about this film really gets me excited for any upcoming updates! I’m eager to find out who will be coming back, and if we’ll get another glimpse of Andy savoring his famous grilled cheese sandwiches. I’ve been trying to master the recipe for years now, and I’m also working on refining my fashion style. It seems like a perfect time to rewatch it all while we wait for more news!
