The Devil Wears Prada 2 gets exciting update after 19-year wait for fans – but one star won’t return

In May 2026, the upcoming sequel is set to bring back together Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, who will once again take on their respective characters.

Missing from the cast, however, will be Adrian Grenier – aka Andy’s (Hathaway) boyfriend Nate.

As reported by Entertainment Weekly, the actor won’t be featured in the upcoming sequel; however, it remains unclear what will happen to his character.

In the 2006 movie’s wrap-up, I, Nate, was gearing up to bid adieu to bustling New York. But, you see, my move to Boston must have been the reason for my unexpected disappearance in the following scenes.

After constant disagreements, Andy and Nate decided to end their relationship. However, they managed to reconcile before Andy left for a job interview at a newspaper.

As a devoted fan, I must admit that their last encounter seemed to hint at a potential romantic rekindling. However, Grenier’s departure from the series leaves me questioning this possibility.

At the moment, specifics about the upcoming sequel are tightly guarded secrets. Nevertheless, enthusiasts now know that David Frankel, the original director, will once again take charge, as will screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna.

Furthermore, the acclaimed actor and filmmaker Kenneth Branagh has agreed to portray Miranda Priestly’s husband in the upcoming project.

In terms of the storyline, the movie is likely to portray the journey of Miranda, an editor-in-chief, as she navigates the fall of magazine publishing industry and butts heads with her ex-assistant Emily Charlton (Blunt), who has risen to prominence at a high-end advertising firm.

In June, Blunt playfully remarked to Entertainment Tonight that she and Streep often display a “ruff manner” towards each other in every film they collaborate on.

She often finds herself at odds with someone, and she can’t pinpoint the reason. She hopes they can resolve their issues. She remains uncertain about it, as she put it.

The Devil Wears Prada sequel will be released on 1 May 2026.
