The Deliverance, Tarot, and 19 other horror movies and shows hitting Netflix this August
As a horror enthusiast with years of experience under my belt, I’m thrilled to pieces about the latest additions to Netflix’s horror and thriller library this August. It’s not every day that we get such a treat, especially when it comes to classic series like “Interview with the Vampire.” I remember devouring Anne Rice’s books back in the day, and now I can’t wait to sink my teeth into the small-screen adaptation.
As the heat of July starts to fade, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement. Before we know it, August will be here, bringing with it the crispness of autumn in the air. And before you can say “jack-o-lantern,” September will have arrived, leading us straight into the spooky and magical world of Halloween!
Netflix believes that horror enthusiasts will be thrilled with next month’s lineup as it is filled with terrifying treats. Some of the anticipated releases include “The Deliverance” by Lee Daniels, most movies from the “Child’s Play” series, “Pearl,” and various hit AMC shows such as “Interview with the Vampire” and “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.”
Here’s all the horror content coming to Netflix in August 2024. Time to renew your sub!
The Deliverance (Aug. 30)
Monique and Lee Daniels team up once more for a horrifying exorcism movie inspired by the reportedly authentic account of possession in the Latoya Ammons case.
I, as a gamer, recently moved my family into a new house. We were all excited about starting fresh in our new home. But not long after we’d settled in, strange things began to happen around us. My children were acting oddly, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. I started to suspect that they had somehow been possessed by demons. With each passing day, the supernatural phenomena grew more intense. I turned to my friends for help – Glenn Close played a seasoned investigator, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor was a skeptical neighbor, Caleb McLaughlin portrayed my troubled son, and Omar Epps was a local priest. Together, we delved deeper into the mystery of our haunted home.
Pearl (Aug. 16)
Re-explore the prequel movie titled “X” by Ti West, featuring Mia Goth reprising her chilling portrayal of the slasher antagonist Pearl. In this 1918-set production, we delve into Pearl’s past as she transforms from a hopeful actress stranded on a rural homestead to a ruthless murderer. Meanwhile, the third installment of the trilogy, “MaXXXine,” continues to captivate audiences in cinemas.
Tarot (Aug. 1)
I was quite disappointed when I watched “Tarot,” a Sony horror film that came out this year and received unfavorable critiques from critics. However, despite the poor reviews, I found myself enjoying its lighthearted PG-13 teen horror vibe. The creature designs in this film were surprisingly freaky and added an extra layer of excitement to the screams.
A band of college pals retreat to a mansion in the Catskills to honor a friend’s birthday. In the house, they stumble upon an ancient Tarot card deck. As they conduct readings, their ranks gradually thin as mysterious forces claim their lives, mirroring the predictions ominously depicted in the cards.
Rebel Moon: Director’s Cuts (Aug. 2)
If you’re a big fan of Zack Snyder’s “Rebel Moon” duology, you’ll be thrilled to know that there’s more coming your way. The original parts 1 and 2 were rated PG-13, but the upcoming director’s cuts are rated R for stronger content. These new versions will feature increased violence, sexuality, and nudity. Check out the red-band trailer above for a sneak peek.
Interview with the Vampire (Aug. 19)
As a long-time fan of thought-provoking television series, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news with fellow enthusiasts. Having spent countless hours immersed in the intricate plots and complex characters of various shows, I can’t help but feel elated at the prospect of a new deal between Netflix and AMC.
In the acclaimed “Vampire Chronicles” novels by Anne Rice, the novel “Interview with the Vampire” focuses on the character of Louis de Pointe du Lac, portrayed by Jacob Anderson, who shares his extraordinary past with journalist Daniel Molloy, played by Eric Bogosian. This conversation takes place in early 20th-century New Orleans, where Louis recounts tales of his creator and lover, Lestat du Lioncourt, brilliantly brought to life by Sam Reid.
Netflix will not only offer “Interview with the Vampire,” but also stream other horror series from AMC including “Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches,” “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon,” “Fear the Walking Dead,” “Preacher,” “A Discovery of Witches,” and “The Terror.”
Child’s Play film series (Aug. 1)
As we anxiously anticipate whether Syfy will renew the hit “Chucky” TV show, fans can re-experience the classic “Child’s Play” film franchise. Beginning August 1, nearly all the movies will be accessible on Netflix. Regrettably, the initial 1988 movie won’t be included, but you’re welcome to watch “Child’s Play 2,” “Child’s Play 3,” “Bride of Chucky,” “Seed of Chucky,” and “Cult of Chucky.”
