James Gunn’s upcoming movie, Man of Tomorrow, will feature Brainiac, one of Superman’s most famous enemies, in a live-action film for the first time. Lars Eidinger will be the first actor to portray this iconic DC villain on the big screen.
After James Gunn announced the actor’s casting on social media on December 20, 2025, fans have created artwork imagining what the German star might look like as Brainiac in the new DC Universe. You can see some of the artwork below.
Bosslogic created fan art imagining actor Brendan Eidinger as the villain Brainiac. The image shows Brainiac connected to wires, with a modernized take on his classic costume.
RoyalMaj3sty shared their take on what Brainiac’s design from the Man of Tomorrow storyline might look like, blending it with elements from the character’s more recent appearances in DC comics.
Kaped Kazi designed a take on Eidinger as Brainiac in what seems to be a battle mode.
The DC Community of Bengal created a dark-silver Brainiac costume, complete with a throne inside his spaceship, for the actor who plays Jay Kelly.
Artist @officialapasity posted a new design featuring Superman and expressed their desire to see the villain Brainiac appear alongside Peter Capaldi’s version of the Thinker, a character who was killed off in James Gunn’s film, The Suicide Squad.

Production on the Man of Tomorrow film is currently scheduled to begin in April 2026, with David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult returning as Superman and Lex Luthor. In a surprising twist, the two longtime enemies will team up to face a common threat: Brainiac.

Though Eidinger will be the first actor to play Brainiac on the big screen, he’s actually the third actor to portray the Superman villain in live-action. James Marsters first played the character in season 5 of Smallville and continued in the role for multiple seasons.
Blake Ritson played the DC villain Brainiac in the SYFY series Krypton, which aired for two seasons. Brainiac has also appeared in many animated shows over the past twenty years.
The first chapter of the DC Universe, “Gods and Monsters,” will continue in 2026 with the Supergirl movie starring Milly Alcock, set to release on June 26th. Later that summer, the HBO series Lanterns will debut, followed by the Clayface movie on September 11th. Man of Tomorrow is currently planned for release on July 9th, 2027.
