The Darkness Rocks VE Day Concert, Leaving Fans and Queen Camilla Shocked!
On Thursday, during the BBC’s 80th anniversary celebration of VE Day, the unexpected act of rock band The Darkness graced the stage.
As a devoted admirer, I had the privilege of witnessing a spectacular performance by a renowned group at an event showcasing timeless 1940s hits like “We’ll Meet Again” and “I Got Rhythm.” The occasion was graced by war veterans and esteemed members of the Royal Family, and it was truly an honor to be part of such a memorable gathering as they entertained us with their enchanting performance.
This evening’s concert, held at London’s renowned Horseguards Parade, is one of several celebratory events this week commemorating the 80th anniversary of VE Day. VE Day, short for Victory in Europe Day, signifies the day when World War II in Europe officially concluded back in 1945.
Though numerous spectators applauded the band and frontman Justin Hawkins for their lively show, some expressed bewilderment regarding the choice to recruit them instead.
During a conversation with X, it was pointed out by fans that some veteran audience members might appreciate the classic tunes more in the show. They jokingly remarked that they weren’t aware The Darkness had such a significant fanbase among older war veterans.
It seemed that Queen Camilla shared this feeling, as seen when she covered her ears during a conversation with 107-year-old World War Two bomber pilot Harry Richardson, while the camera was rolling.

Among the comments, Harry Richardson, a 107-year-old World War II bomber pilot, shared his insights on the performance.
‘We owe him and his heroic colleagues so much;
Therefore, they bring forth The Darkness performing the song “I believe in a thing called love”. I’m not sure if I should laugh or shed tears.
I didn’t know that the centenarian veterans at the VE Day concert were fans of The Darkness, but it turns out they are!
‘Nope. The Darkness does not fit here. At all; Not sure how The Darkness fit into this;
‘Watching the VE Day concert, and I didn’t expect to see The Darkness performing;
‘The Darkness at the VE Day concert is so random and not really a war time theme.’
On the other hand, many people complimented the band’s performance, remarking things like: “The Darkness proves that I Believe In A Thing Called Love is a fantastic tune.

‘The Darkness playing I Believe In Thing Called Love was not on my VE Day bingo list;
107-year-old veterans who celebrated VE Day are enjoying the band The Darkness playing their hit song, “I Believe In A Thing Called Love.”
Or, in a more conversational tone:
The 107-year-old VE Day vets can’t get enough of The Darkness rocking out to “I Believe In A Thing Called Love”!
In another location, His & Her Majesties, Charles aged 76, and Camilla, also 77, beamed with joy during a musical event, accompanied by Prince Edward who is 61 years old and his spouse Sophie, both aged 60.
In simple terms, the woman with three children left everyone speechless while wearing a chic outfit consisting entirely of white pieces, which included a stylish midi dress made from bouclé and chiffon fabric, designed by Self-Portrait that she had worn before.
As a die-hard fan, let me share with you the stellar lineup for this event: I’m thrilled to be part of the audience featuring stars like the talented cast from the World War II musical Operation Mincemeat! Not only that, but West End sensation Samantha Barks will captivate us with her moving performance of We’ll Meet Again. Add to that, Fleur East, Calum Scott, John Newman, Toploader, and Tom Walker – it’s an unbeatable combination!
In another setting, renowned as he is for his work on Succession, Brian Cox powerfully recreated the emotional essence of Winston Churchill’s legendary war address.
On May 8, 1945, the country rejoiced over Victory in Europe (VE) Day, as church bells pealed throughout the land and folks assembled to delight in the conclusion of warfare. Crowds amassed outside Buckingham Palace, expressing their admiration for King George VI.
Six years into the struggle against Adolf Hitler’s Nazi rule, a peace declaration was made, but the conflict with Japan persisted until August of the same year.
