The Crow’s SDCC 2024 exclusive clip makes undead revenge look clumsy

As a long-time gamer and comic book fan, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of “The Crow,” the latest adaptation of James O’Barr’s iconic series. The exclusive clip from San Diego Comic-Con 2024 has only fueled my excitement further, but also left me with a few concerns.

As a passionate gamer and avid fan of comic book adaptations, I’m thrilled to share my perspective on an exclusive sneak peek of “The Crow,” which Lionsgate unveiled during San Diego Comic-Con 2024. In this gripping clip, the titular character, brilliantly portrayed by Bill Skarsgård and British artist FKA twigs as Eric and Shelly respectively, embarks on a quest for vengeance that turns into an unyielding thirst for blood.

The first teaser for “The Crow” unveiled some time ago highlights that the resurrected Eric possesses divine abilities, bestowed upon him to right the wrongs of the two murders he endured. However, in the SDCC sneak peek, we see him engaging in brutal fights against those he holds responsible. Despite the intensity, this scene isn’t intended to be humorous – nothing about it suggests laughter when Eric’s attempt to take down his adversaries fails. Instead, the mood is distinctly contrasting to the trailer’s goal of updating 1980s goth style with a modern horror-thriller atmosphere.

The limited series “The Crow” by O’Barr was earlier turned into a 1994 movie, famously known for the tragic death of its leading actor Brandon Lee during filming, due to an accident with a prop gun. This film saw commercial success and gained a small but dedicated fanbase. As a result, expectations are high for this contemporary adaptation, with comic book enthusiasts closely examining every detail to gauge the direction taken by director Rupert Sanders. Sanders’ past work has been met with criticism; his last production was the controversial 2017 live-action remake of “Ghost in the Shell,” which sparked intense debate over Scarlett Johansson being cast in the main role.

I’m thrilled to share with you an exclusive poster for next year’s “The Crow” movie, which is set to hit theaters on August 23, 2024. At San Diego Comic-Con, I was fortunate enough to get my hands on this limited edition design. Can’t wait to see it come to life on the big screen!
