As a die-hard Outlander fan and avid Sam Heughan supporter, I have to admit that my anticipation for “The Couple Next Door” has been building like a cauldron on a high flame. The news of its delayed release date is indeed a bit disheartening, but as they say, good things come to those who wait. And let’s be honest, the wait for new Sam Heughan content isn’t exactly a hardship!

Sam Heughan and Outlander fans, we have good news to share with you! Of course we love to see the actor as the one and only Jamie Fraser, but that doesn’t mean we don’t also love supporting the cast in other projects. One of the intriguing ones us in the U.S. have been waiting to see is The Couple Next Door starring Heughan himself. There’s finally a premiere date, but it’s a little longer than promised.

Initially, Starz announced in July 2024 that their psychological drama would start streaming and airing during winter 2024, which many assumed meant a December release. However, the thriller “The Couple Next Door” is actually scheduled to premiere on Starz on January 17, 2025. I understand that we’ve been waiting just a little longer than previously expected, but I can’t hide my excitement for the show! At least now we have a specific date to look forward to!

The six-episode series begins its run on the very same day as the finale of Outlander season 7, airing on television post the broadcast of the final episode of Outlander season 7 part 2 starting at 9 p.m. ET. Each new episode will be made available weekly on both the Starz app and the Starz channel.

With the conclusion of the seventh season of the historical drama, it seems we’ll still get our fix of Sam Heughan as the release date for The Couple Next Door has been postponed. Given this, it appears the network made this decision. The drama features an impressive cast including Eleanor Tomlinson, Jessica De Gouw, and Alfred Enouch. Living in this seemingly perfect suburban neighborhood may not be as blissful as it appears, for beneath the facade lies hidden perils and unspoken desires that swiftly come to light. The book, “The Couple Next Door,” delves into the suffocating effects of suburbia and the consequences of pursuing one’s innermost yearnings. When Evie (Tomlinson) and Pete (Enoch) decide to settle in this upscale neighborhood with aspirations of starting a family, they soon form a bond with their neighbors, Danny (Heughan), an assertive police officer, and his wife, the stylish yoga instructor Becka (De Gouw). As time passes, these four individuals grow closer, and one fateful night, their lives are forever altered by an unexpected sexual encounter.

The show has been renewed for season 2, but don’t expect to see Sam Heughan

The psychological thriller was initially produced by Channel 4, a British television station, which explains its delayed arrival in the U.S. As reported by Deadline, The Couple Next Door has already been renewed for a second season. It premiered in Britain and the UK back in November 2023, with the news being shared earlier this month. Therefore, it took around a year for the company to make their decision, but now it’s available!

As a gamer, I must admit that I haven’t had the opportunity to watch the first season of Outlander due to living in the U.S., but I do understand that Sam Heughan as Danny might not be a recurring character moving forward. From what I gather, it seems like the finale might not fully resolve the storylines of the original characters. Nonetheless, four new faces are set to take charge and lead the series into uncharted territory.

According to Deadline, Sam Palladio, Annabel Scholey, Aggy K. Adams, and Sendhil Ramamurthy are among the cast members for the upcoming season. So far, Hugh Dennis is the only one who will reprise his role from the first season. He portrays the mysterious man observing couples through a telescope in the trailer. Filming has started on the second season in Belgium.

The Couple Next Door season 1 premieres Friday, Jan. 17, 2025 on Starz.
