The Chase’s Mark Labbett defends “unfair” rule after viewer complaints

Mark Labbett, known as ‘The Beast’ on the show The Chase, has responded to criticism about a strategy he often employs. Labbett has been a Chaser on the popular quiz show since it began in 2009.

On yesterday’s episode of the ITV quiz show, Mark Labbett – known as ‘The Beast’ – won the Final Chase against contestants Caren and Andy with just five seconds remaining.

After winning his match, Labbett spoke to Bradley Walsh about a complaint he’d seen online. He explained that some viewers feel it’s unfair that the Chasers are allowed to interrupt contestants during the show, while the contestants aren’t allowed to interrupt them.

Actually, that’s totally wrong. Anyone can join the game whenever they want, if they’re feeling up to it! Let me explain – I jumped in early because I had to, and it wasn’t a rule or anything.

Based on what Labbett has said, he doesn’t seem likely to change his strategy anytime soon. This means we can probably expect to see him use it on the new spin-off show, The Chase Around the World.

The new spin-off show, which was announced last month, will bring back Bradley Walsh and all the Chasers – Mark Labbett, Anne Hegerty, Shaun Wallace, Paul Sinha, Jenny Ryan, and Darragh Ennis – in a completely different style of game.

The new show features six teams competing to find all six of the show’s ‘Chasers,’ who are secretly located in different places around the globe.

Each episode, teams will arrive in a different city and have to solve puzzles to figure out the Chasers’ location.

The team that takes the longest to locate the Chasers will face off against one of the show’s experts to avoid elimination.

According to a statement by Walsh, this revamped version of The Chase mixes trivia with travel, creating a uniquely challenging experience for contestants.

The Chasers are well-known globally, and fans can expect to see them compete in some amazing and undisclosed places.

The Chase airs on weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
