The Chase star Shaun Wallace breaks silence on rumours he’s been ‘sacked’ from ITV game show
As a devoted fan of The Chase, I can’t help but feel a mix of admiration and awe for the enigmatic Dark Destroyer, Shaun Wallace. His life story is nothing short of inspiring, with his successful career as a barrister and his unparalleled performance on the quiz show. Shaun Wallace, a cast member on “The Chase,” has spoken out to clarify speculation about his alleged dismissal from the ITV game show.
64-year-old Shaun, also recognized as the “Dark Destroyer,” disclosed the genuine cause behind his occasional absences from the program.
In 2004, the Mastermind champion, who also excels as a barrister outside of the game show, shared that his occasional absences were related to his busy legal responsibilities.
On The Hearing – A Legal Podcast, Shaun explained that when he has a lengthy court case, it is more important than his filming, and The Chase is aware of this. However, he will need to produce the remaining episodes in the series at a later time.

Shaun, a veteran lawyer with over 30 years of experience, admitted that his television career could come to an end at any moment, as he shared with New Zealand Woman’s Weekly.
Following Anne Hegerty, who joined Shaun’s team in series two and is a Chaser, expressed concern over the potential impact on the quiz show due to ITV’s budget reductions.
Anne shared with The Star, “For the upcoming year, we’re reducing the number of shows and focusing more on our plans. It seems all streaming platforms have begun incorporating advertisements.”
As a long-time fan of ITV and various other television networks, I can’t help but notice the impact of increased competition for advertising dollars. Over the years, my viewing habits have shown me that this competition has led to a decrease in revenue from advertisements, which affects not only the channels themselves but also the entire media landscape.
It’s natural to feel a bit anxious but also relieved when you learn that there will be additional episodes.
Anne emphasized that she can’t conceive of living apart from The Chase, as she joined the show back in 2010.
