Indira Varma, known for her roles in shows like Game of Thrones, The Night Manager, and the upcoming Dune: Prophecy, as well as the BBC drama The Capture, has joined the cast of Guy Ritchie’s Young Sherlock for its second season. She’ll be acting alongside Hero Fiennes Tiffin, who plays the young detective.
Created by Matthew Parkhill and developed by Peter Harness and Ritchie (who also directed the first two episodes), Young Sherlock presents a fresh take on the famous detective from Arthur Conan Doyle. This series portrays Sherlock Holmes as a 19-year-old, still learning the ropes as a detective. The show draws inspiration from Doyle’s original stories and the Young Sherlock Holmes book series by Andrew Lane. Dónal Finn, known for The Other Bennet Sister, stars as James Moriarty, a new friend to the young detective.
Varma joins Aidan Gillen, known for his role as Petyr ‘Littlefinger’ Baelish in Game of Thrones, along with Olivia Williams and Sophie Skelton in the show’s second season.
Prime Video has confirmed that Finn, Natascha McElhone, Holly Cattle, and Max Irons will return for season two of Young Sherlock. While it’s still unknown what roles Varma, Gillen, Williams, and Skelton will have, the returning cast members are set to reprise their characters from season one.
Guy Ritchie, known for directing the popular Sherlock Holmes films with Robert Downey Jr., will likely direct the first episode of the second season as well.

The first season of Young Sherlock has earned a “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics giving it an 84% score based on 50 reviews. Variety calls the show “sensational,” praising how it blends familiar aspects of the iconic character with surprising new elements.
While The Nightly admitted Young Sherlock wasn’t a particularly groundbreaking take on the Holmes story, they still considered it one of Guy Ritchie’s stronger recent works.
The reviewer called it a small indulgence, but said it could be quite enjoyable if you’re aware of its simplicity.
