The ‘Burbs Season 2 Story Plans Revealed By Creator After 78% RT Success

Be warned: this article contains spoilers for the first season of ‘The ‘Burbs’! Keke Palmer and Jack Whitehall have barely begun to uncover the secrets of Hinkley Hills.

Inspired by the Tom Hanks film The ‘Burbs, the series follows Samira and Rob, a new couple with a baby, who move from the city to Rob’s hometown of Hinkley Hills hoping for a quieter life. But Samira quickly becomes fixated on an old local mystery – a teenage girl who disappeared twenty years ago – and a rundown Victorian house on their street. As she investigates, she uncovers a network of hidden secrets within the town.

To celebrate the show’s launch, Liam Crowley from ScreenRant spoke with Celeste Hughey about The ‘Burbs. When asked if future seasons would follow a new story each time or continue Samira and Rob’s storyline, the show’s creator confirmed that Jack and Keke will be the main characters in a potential next season. However, she also hinted that the cast will change, with new characters joining and others leaving.

Sierra Hughey, known for her work on the Hulu series High Fidelity, hinted that characters mentioned in the first season could reappear in future episodes. While she didn’t say who those characters might be, she did confirm she’s already fully planned out season two and has a detailed, 10-page pitch ready for Peacock’s review.

Celeste Hughey mentioned there’s a lot to consider for the show, and while Keke and Jack will remain central, they’d like to delve deeper into the other characters – exploring their histories, motivations, and hidden secrets.

Just when it looked like the first season of The ‘Burbs was ending, it left viewers with several unanswered questions, hinting at a possible second season. The biggest surprise was Naveen, played by Kapil Talwalkar, being kidnapped by Kate (Georgia Leva). It was revealed that Kate is connected to the Homeowners Association, a group with a dark secret: they’ve been kidnapping and even killing people in town to maintain a perfect appearance.

While Danielle Kennedy’s character, Agnes, is the main suspect in the decades-long mystery – she’s been HOA president for over 20 years – the show didn’t confirm she’s actually in charge. The first season of ‘The ‘Burbs’ ended without showing how widespread the conspiracy is, only revealing that Chad Lindberg’s character, Walters – a creepy garbage truck driver who’s also a hitman – was involved. This leaves room for season 2 to explore whether members of the police or local government are also connected to the killings.

A big question for season 2 of The ‘Burbs is what happened to Alison Dasher. She appeared to be moving on from her kidnapping and leaving Hinkley Hills. Although Samira and Rob received a letter from her giving them the key to the Victorian house and saying they could do what they wanted with it, Danny and Lauren Daniels are later shown receiving the house after it was supposedly donated to the city. This raises the possibility that Alison has been kidnapped again.

Based on comments from Hughey, season 2 of The ‘Burbs might bring back some characters who didn’t get much screen time in the first season. Fans of the original movie are especially hoping to see Tom Hanks return as H. Horace Hinkley, the town’s founder, who was featured in a historical photo during a presentation about the town’s past.

To bridge the gap between the character’s past and the present-day story, the show might use a flashback. This would continue a season 1 pattern of bringing back original actors. For example, Corey Feldman returned as Ricky Butler from the popular thriller, and Wendy Schaal also made an appearance, playing a different character.

Even though it just launched and won’t have big changes soon, season 2 of ‘The ‘Burbs’ is off to a great start. Critics are giving it mostly positive reviews, and it’s actually outperforming the original movie on Rotten Tomatoes with a 78% ‘Certified Fresh’ rating. It’s also currently the most-watched show on Peacock. If it keeps attracting viewers, the creator may be able to bring back the main actors and explore more of the secrets in Hinkley Hills.

All eight episodes of The ‘Burbs season 1 are available to stream on Peacock.
