The British Fashion Council Is Shaking Up London Fashion Week

Summary

  • Newly-appointed CEO Laura Weir is looking to revolutionize British runways.
  • Additional funding, confirmed show spaces, and more is expected to aid designers on the main show schedule.
  • The next edition of LFW will see these changes implemented for the first time.

After the departure of long-serving CEO Caroline Rush, the British Fashion Council is stepping into a fresh phase. The newly appointed head, Laura Weir, is readying herself to instigate substantial changes on British streets, unveiling various proposals that will mold the future of London Fashion Week.

During the previous fashion season, it was announced that BFC would discontinue its men’s fashion runways in June, instead choosing a comprehensive September lineup. In the upcoming period, Laura Weir will waive design fees for creators exhibiting their new collections on the primary calendar, while simultaneously increasing their financial support for LFW’s guest initiative. This program is designed to attract more international designers to present their work within the UK.

Additionally, the BFC’s upcoming NEWGEN designers will be granted a broad LFW show area for the next three years ahead. The latest group features Aaron Esh, Chet Lo, Harri, and many others. Lastly, all BFC scholarship winners can now expect increased financial support, allowing them to create more detailed collections and powerful runway presentations in the future.

The next edition of London Fashion Week will take place from September 18 to 22, 2025.
