As a huge fan of “The Boys,” I was absolutely blown away by the season 4 finale. The way the story unfolded, with Homelander gaining complete control of the US government and the cliffhanger involving Ashley Barrett’s transformation after injecting herself with Compound V, left me on the edge of my seat.
The final episode of “The Boys” season 4 was extraordinarily intense, filled with gruesome and vulgar scenes, and could be described using almost any harsh word you can think of. Narratively speaking, the show ended on a cliffhanger: Homelander had seized power over the US government, and the situation was rapidly deteriorating into chaos.
Regarding her ominous transformation, Vought CEO Ashley Barrett (portrayed by Colby Minifie) felt compelled to administer herself with a dose of Compound V in a desperate bid for survival. This was after she secretly heard the Seven members discussing plans to eliminate her and other Vought employees. Moments later, the effect of the serum kicked in, resulting in an astonishing metamorphosis that departed significantly from anything previously witnessed. Although the precise nature of her transformation remains a mystery, with the scene concluding abruptly, actress Colby Minifie anticipates an utterly revolting revelation.
Producers of Compound V bestow various extraordinary abilities upon those who consume it, ranging from remarkable strength to the power to teleport and even communicate with fish. However, Minifie expresses her skepticism about Ashley receiving an appealing ability. “They’re all rather embarrassing and distasteful in my opinion,” she stated to TV Line. “I believe Ashley will have to endure some mortification to access her power – perhaps she must seclude herself in a hidden place before it becomes active. There seems to be a bitter element involved, but I’m unsure of the specifics.”
Minifie has proposed a few unique concepts so far. Considering Ashley’s baldness, resulting from the immense stress of dealing with Homelander’s sociopathic behavior – a challenge many can relate to – it seems appropriate for her character to use an unconventional hair-based power. Minifie jokingly suggested this idea to TV Guide: “She rapidly grows armpit hair and uses it as a lasso to capture people,” she quipped. However, she pondered if this concept might be too predictable given Ashley’s baldness.
Eric Kripke and his team are likely brimming with disturbing concepts for the show “The Boys.” We’ll have to wait until 2026 for the fifth and final season to unveil them.
